The saying “history repeats itself” is true. It seems the shadows of anti-Semitism lurk in many parts of the world, but when it rears its ugly head in the United Nations, there is reason to believe that even the most respected institutions could be inflicted with its virus.
When the United Nations first opened its doors, it was meant to espouse three principal objectives, namely, maintaining world peace, developing friendly relations among nations and solving international problems, socially, economically and culturally. It was never intended to be a center where anti-Semitism (which, by the way, happens to be one of the most virulent scourges of racism) and the contortion of the doctrine of human rights would be permitted to prevail and be publicly promoted.
In the wake of World War II, this organization began laying the foundation of trust and goodwill among nations, at which time, the family of nations had justifiably perpetuated the memory of the death of six millions Jews in gas chambers. The tragedy that happened was the worst, unforgettable act of racism that mushroomed into a genocide, leaving the whole world wondering as to how acts of incidental anti-Semitism could some day develop into widespread calamity for victims of hatred and malice.
The two words, “never again,” continued to reverberate through the corridors of the United Nations, where the “ghosts” of those brutally killed haunted the souls of nations around the world. But at this critical juncture, when the whole world is threatened by Islamic terrorism (which is one of the worst forms of bigotry and racism), the United Nations, under the leadership of Ban ki-Moon has found it appropriate to host one of the most virulent racists in history, by the name of Ahmedinijad. Where else could he spew his vitriol against Israel other than in a place where the conference on racism is convened. It should be noted that the very purpose for which the conference was convened has regrettably diluted the essence of its objective when Ahmedinijad, the holocaust denier and the champion of bigotry, was called to the podium to rave against the State of Israel.
The United States, together with other Western nations, have rightly walked out of the conference, leaving the United Nations united only by a majority of Arab and African nations, and those that condone their ideology of hatred and malice.
