Canada just held a federal election several months ago and we re-elected the Conservative Party for another term in office. So why are the opposition parties bent on destroying the definition of the word “democracy”?

Three months ago, Stephen Harper and his Conservative government dissolved the Canadian parliament to hold an election. Six weeks ago, we discovered the results – another Conservative minority government. One week goes by since Parliament returns to govern this country and the other three parties – the Liberals, NDP and BQ – sign a coalition to bring down the government yet again, except this time, right in the middle of an economic crisis. What the heck do these corrupted opposition parties think they’re doing? Let me educate the public on the latest scam happening atop Parliament Hill.

“The Conservatives may be arrogant and confrontational but they have more legitimacy than the NDP – Liberal coalition (The New Democratic Liberal Party) since they have more seats and their Throne speech has been approved. Given that the full extent of the current economic crisis has yet to be felt, and the New US Administration has yet to formulate its response, any large stimulation package is premature. For the NDP-Liberal coalition (or the Conservatives) to propose one now is also premature. It is therefore premature for a Liberal-NDP coalition to bring down the Government.” – Donald M.

Here is my long response to the above quote:

I agree Donald. In fact, I am completely annoyed that the Liberals-NDP-BQ coalition could become a reality. I just turned 18 three months ago and voted for the first time in my life. Who did I vote for? The Conservatives! In my opinion, all parties have their own secret agenda, but the Conservatives are definitely the least corrupt party of them all.

Anyone with half a brain would realize this is a blatant power grab. The Liberals, NDP and BQ are so desperate for power, they couldn’t stand seeing the Conservatives elected to govern the country. And the BQ just kills it for me – they’re a separatist party and they don’t even deserve one seat in government! All provinces should be united into one country – Canada. The fact that the BQ wants to divide the country between Quebec and non-Quebec is reason enough not to provide them with any sort of power whatsoever.

And I’m disgusted to see many people arguing that the majority of Canadians actually support a coalition government. This is the biggest bunch of bull I’ve ever seen in my 18 years of living. CTV News held a recent poll on their website, with over 80 percent of respondents OPPOSING a coalition government and ONLY less than 20 percent actually supporting it. Global News also held a poll, with about 44% of respondents saying that the Governor General should call an election, 42% saying Harper should prorogue government, and ONLY 14% supporting the idea of a coalition.

In fact, CTV News held a segment where they interviewed a class of high school students. The teacher of that class said, and I quote, “I am a Liberal, like many other teachers are, but I do not support the idea of a coalition government.” If the Conservatives are against a coalition, and the Canadians who support the Liberal Party are against a coalition, and these are the two major parties in Canada, that shows further proof that the majority of Canadians DO NOT WANT a coalition!

And for those of you who say Harper should resign: Why the heck should he? As far as I’m concerned, he’s been one of the better Prime Ministers we’ve had in the past two decades. Harper hasn’t done anything wrong and everyone knows it! Cut the politicians’ funding? That’s a good thing. They already have a higher annual salary than most other Canadians, and the Conservatives would lose the most of all the parties – $10 million. And as far as a stimulus goes, the Liberal-NDP-BQ coalition wants to spend $30 billion in their proposal! What do they want to do? Plunge this country into certain debt? And then tax us to death to make up for it, like McGuinty and Chretian? I have enough monthly bills to pay and I certainly don’t want any more!

They say young people these days should speak up and take an interest in politics, since the politicians’ decisions can affect our future. Well, I’m one of those young people, and I’ll be damned if we get a bunch of lunatics into government who’ll keep raising taxes and increasing the poverty level! My dad worked his butt off for the past 50 years so my family could afford a nice house on a nice piece of property and eliminate the need for us to have a mortgage! I won’t stand having another money-grabbing government in power and I cannot believe the fact that a lot of the people interviewed by television news networks actually support the idea of such a corrupt and deceptive coalition existing! But I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. The Toronto Star is Liberal. The CBC is Liberal. Even Allan Gregg of TVO wants Harper to either resign or the coalition take place! I hope to God that Steve Paikin is a Conservative! You want this country to fall apart? Fine. Go ahead and push your damn coalition! Just don’t come back complaining after Canadians get screwed over like ‘The Day After Tomorrow.’

God Help Us All if these three lunatic parties get into power!

And that was my response. As you can see, this is Canadian democracy at its worst. The party we voted for in the recent election, and the one with whom we want to govern this country, could lose power to the three parties we didn’t want governing the country, one week after returning to office.

Further proof that the coalition cannot exist was recently displayed when both the Prime Minister and the coalition took to the airways to present their views to the Canadian public. Stephen Harper’s message was short, but to the point, lasting only 4 minutes and 50 seconds. However, the coalition’s message, presented by Liberal leader Stephane Dion, was 30 minutes late to air, and it looked on television as though their pre-recorded message was taken off of YouTube. Afterwards, the three party leaders began arguing with each other as to why their broadcast to the Canadian public was of such a poor quality, and why it was presented so late to the news networks.

A new exclusive Harris Decima country-wide poll revealed that across the entire country, 68% of all Canadians in all provinces support the idea of Harper proroguing government. Only 32% actually support the idea of a coalition. In fact, in another country-wide poll, 62% of Canadians are angered at what has taken place over the past several days.

Anyways, the Governor General returned to Canada from a trip to Europe to deal with this situation. Although she received a letter from the coalition parties to ignore Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s request to prorogue government, she has decided to approve the request nonetheless. This means that Parliament will be shut down until January 26, 2009, when the Conservatives will reveal their budget plan for the new year. Hopefully by then, the opposition’s anger will have died down. Otherwise, I see no other option but to hold another $300 million federal election. This time though, we’ll give the Conservatives a majority number of seats in the House of Commons so that they won’t have to deal with the childish stupidity that the Liberals, NDP and BQ parties are portraying.
