Arkansas Flooding

I took the picture above today.  It is where the boat ramp for Brodie Bend is supposed to be.  Brodie Bend is a loop of water off of the Arkansas River.  This picture was taken less than a quarter mile from where I live.

Today the sky is clear and no rain of any kind is expected for a few days.  Last night was the first quiet night this week.  For two nights we have had heavy rain, more than enough thunder and lightning, and some tornados. 

Night before last, we stayed in town with family and was surprised not to see much damage when we came back home.  Yesturday the water was just to the top of the Brodie Bend boat ramp.  All it would take would be another two inches and it would be coming across the road. 

Today the water is flowing across the road.  So now the only way for me to leave is in a vehicle with plenty of clearance. 

The water is going across the road and forming a lake in a field on its way to a small pond in the woods.  That pond is currently full.

That pond is overflowing and crossing the road between where I live and my neighbor at the end of this road.  The water is flowing into Hensley lake.  (Last photo below is of it crossing the road just 200 feet from where I live.)  Down at the other end of Hensley lake (four miles away) it will flow back into the Arkansas River.  This morning when my neighbor took her kids to school, it was not over the road yet.  I wonder how she will get her kids home today.

There are 49 man made dams in Arkansas.  These were built to help control flooding.  Without those dams, this little trailer house would be completely under water right now.

It should be sometime tomorrow before the water comes down enough that it will not longer be crossing the road out here.
