The Afghanistan province of Nuristan was the scene of a daring attack by the Taliban against an American outpost.

The attack carried out in broad daylight included small arms fire and supported by heavy machine guns. The Marines fought the Taliban valiantly.
The base was heavily defended, but very remote. Eight Marines were killed and twenty-four were wounded not by small arms fire or hand-to-hand combat, but a huge VBIED. A video of the attack has been posted on Liveleak.
The concussion from the blast was felt over a mile away from the scene of the explosion. It is unknown at this time what was used as the explosive, but the blast was massive. It was clear from the video that chaos ensued after the attack began.
The blast came from the middle of the base, suggesting that the front gate had been overrun. The Marines were on their own. There was no air support due to their remote location. A Blackhawk helicopter was seen in the area, but did not mount a counter attack or defend the base.
The lack of close air support definitely contributed to tragic loss of life in the incident. This also is a clear reminder of the danger faced by Marines every day. It is also a clear indication that the military presence in the area and are spread way to thin.
How about some air support? Twenty-four Marines were severely injured in the blast. The Taliban are gaining ground daily and are happily accepting assistance from Pakistan. Anyone who thinks we should not invade Pakistan, is not following the situation.
Pakistan is doing nothing more than presenting a dog and pony show for the U.S. and her allies. Pakistan also has nuclear weapons, and a very unstable government. Instead of worrying about Iran why not take a closer look at Pakistan? They are not to be trusted.
He was all warm and fuzzy with the former president of Pakistan while the Taliban were playing in their backyard. More American lives will be lost thanks to the man that used to be president. We now have a three front war, soon to be four after we get off our ass and stick it to Pakistan.
We cannot keep playing games with Pakistan. Are we afraid of them? They certainly are not helping us in this war. In fact, they are a staging area for attacks like this one. How much American blood must be spilled in the sand before we learn our lesson? This war is a war for Special Forces.
