Russia armed forces purchase new type of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle.

Russia:

Here just another new progress on defense news. Russia has purchase some Unmanned Aerial Vehicle after the agreement of settlement both radar and anti shielded missile at both former Soviet territory, Ceko and Poland. Even tough, US said that the settlement won’t threat Russia security and defense. The settlement is protecting the regional from enemies attack.

Few years ago, I have heard one of my friend said that Russia is also wanted the Chinese arm forces didn’t settle massive SAM site and military equipment along the Chinese-Russia border. Chinese agree and didn’t put a massive weapon on the border and pointed their guns to Russia which in turn Russia’s remain helping them to develop and supporting their military equipment for the future.

Now, Western is seems to attract Russia to start new weapon race. It’s almost former Soviet Union countries broke joining the European Union or NATO memberships.

In earlier, western has rejected Russia offered to use its radar and missile defense shield, rather than new settlement by the west. US said that their radar and missile system will use as an additional program to protect mid-Europe. Finally, Russia chose the military option rather than diplomatic between countries.

Contract for new UAV

Russia defense department had been contract to purchase brand new type of UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) with extraordinary abilities. This brand new type UAV has been developing since 2005 and they named it as Tipchack. This model of UAV has not been testified completely. Is Luch Design Bureau designation with prelimary code 1K132 tipchack. Its basic purpose is air surveillance to watch over the enemis and ally missile system bases.

It can be launched from a mobile truck which installed with catapult launcher system. The company said the special purpose truck will able to carry up to 6 Tipchack on it’s modify cargo bay. It’s also ground control available. They also mounted with catapult engine to launch the UAV to the air. This second type, the company called it 9M62. It is using launched catapult engine which powered by 12 HP (8, 95 kW) of batteries.

The UAV will be mounted with 14, 5 kg of infra red sensor which able to supply digital image back to the mobility communication center station on the ground. This makes the ground forces is available marking the target with laser beam. Not only that, it also equipped with cannon howitzer krasnopol 152 and smerch rocket on the pod. No further confirmation where the weapons store on the plane.

In 2007 experiment test, tipchack is able to trace Iskander scud site from range 350 km and available to travel 78 km.

Future demand for Russian UAV

The Intelligence printed edition news reported that few military supply companies have been moved to more advance UAV. Its technology and performance can be competed with US built UAV. You can name it MiG(Mikoyan Gurveyich) designed MiG Skat, Sukhoi designated, Kvand(joint venture between Russia and Belarus firms) designed Shtil-3 V/STOL, Pustelga MBVK-137 UAV helicopter, RPV Pchela-1T, Albatros, Expert and Reis-D

It’s not just only for surveillance purpose, but all of them have been equipped with defense and offense weapon on board. Mostly the design is able to trace, intercept and destroy the cruise missiles. However, there is no report said that the experiment on the UAV succeed destroying the cruise missile.

Civil UAV demand

UAV is not built just for military purpose but also civilian. The report said that in Russia, one of the users is Gazprom. Gazprom is a larger energy company who owned the oil and gas pipeline. They used the vehicle to control and watch the area from the sky. It’s proved to be more efficiently rather than other vehicle to do the same thing. For illustration, using the UAV they could cut cost to only USD 0,1 for one kilometers flight compare to light helicopter(10X cheaper) and medium helicopter(50X cheaper).

Irkut Corp has been recorded building the civil UAV with code name Irkut-2 at year 2008. Others are Irkut-850 which were modified from S10VT two seaters glide airplane. It is available both automatic and manned control UAV.

Sokol Design Bureau created the UAV with code name Danem. Eniks Design Bureau from Kazan Group designed T25 aleron. It’s being seen on Moscow Air Show 2005.
