It really came as no surprise, especially when there are two groups who have wanted nothing but failure for President Obama. So the news of the day didn’t startle me in the least. The United States came out with the August jobs report and lo and behold there wasn’t a net gain in employment figures.

They’ve all said it. The Tea Party, the Republican Party, Mitch McConnell, Michele Bachmann….all of them made it clear their goal was to make Barak Obama a one term president and it is obvious they didn’t care what happened to this country in the process. So now we have the month of August which reflected 31 days of no real net gain in employment. This news is coming just days after we learned that many Chief Executive Officers of corporations in American have a salary greater than the amount of taxes their companies have paid. Now isn’t that an interesting little fact? If the corporate tax structure is so prohibitive in this country, why haven’t these corporations moved their headquarters to other countries? Personally, I am outraged that General Electric, Boeing, Exxon-Mobil, Citigroup and Bank of America paid zero dollars in federal taxes.
If anything, the party of “NO” has been successful in blocking nearly every major issue President Obama has presented. We’ve experience no real economic growth, no increase in new construction, no significant improvement in job creation, no new projects surrounding our infrastructure and naturally, no increase in taxes on the ultra wealthy or corporations. Of course, I hold the Democratic Party responsible, as well, for permitting this to happen. The Democrats have never been known for their backbone to fight as one solid unit and consequently, the Republicans who have mastered the one theme, one agenda mantra, walk all over them. Since Ted Kennedy passed away, the Democrats have run “Helter Skelter” and act as individuals, rather than as a party. Accordingly, the collective clout of the Democratic Party is diminished to nothing more than wimpy whining and the Tea Party, along with the Republicans have seized the current climate and taken the aggressive road to ruination for the middle class and poorer Americans.
Interestingly enough, one of America’s wealthiest men, Warren Buffett, with a net worth of just under $50 billion called for a tax increase on the wealthy. How dare this honorable man make such a dastardly comment? Mr. Buffett pointed out how employees in his office pay a much higher percentage in taxes then he does. Wow….those truthful comments inflamed the Koch Brothers, FOX News and the Right Wing spin machines. They are tearing into this great philanthropist like sharks on feeding frenzies, in an attempt to discredit the man and his life’s works.
Whatever President Obama proposes for jobs growth will fail. It will fail because you can not create new employment opportunities of any significance without increased revenues and the Right Wing have made it abundantly clear they are the prostitutes of billionaires and corporate America. Consumers do not spend money when the economy is weak and unemployment is high. Conversely, corporations are raking in record profits with CEOs earning obscene incomes and benefits packages, yet they refuse to hire new staff. So good luck on your speech Mr. President, but be prepared when you receive criticism on every new idea you present. Remember, there are those in this country that wanted you without a job before you even occupied the White House.

An interesting piece Dennis. It is always the same, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer no matter what government is says it is doing to prevent it. It is no different in my country.
Warren Buffet shows that the American Dream can be achieved without individuals who dream it transforming into greedy, grasping and shortsighted teabaggers. It is rare someone in his position shows social responsibility and awareness.
What you say about the Democrats is correct too and needs to be addressed by them. If America votes in a Republican/Tea Bag president and administration in 2012 the world will not survive as we know it. Greedy people never know when to stop and have no empathy with others – in fact they despise them – this is a recipe for disaster. The only bright side to this is that the fortune hoarders will not be able to eat their fortunes and they will experience what it is like to feel worthless. Let’s hope it never comes to that.
thanks for the update
The reason there is no job growth is because Obama has not come up with a strategy and plan for creating jobs. Caulking windows initiative is not a long-term job creation plan. It is difficult for a politician with no real business, entrepreneurial or functional leadership experience or skills to create the substance necessary for change. He was elected by the times and he is failing by his own hand. As for Warren Buffet, from what I understand he is successful because he has been able to accumulate paper wealth and not because he has been able to create jobs. It is because of people like Warren buffet that the United States chases paper wealth and has forgotten how to create real wealth through industry and job creation.
And the cycle continues.
Before now, I have never heard of a rich man admitting that he pays a lower tax rate than the poor and middle class, even though everybody knows that fact.
They know how to do this, they will keep on doing this.
…Beautiful, informative and truthful article. Those who think this man is not working to create jobs are blind. He proposed an extention of the payroll tax cut, a tax cut, something the dastardly GOP loves, they oppose it. They want nothing that stimulates growth . He is sending through a transportion bill
soon, they will not let it go unless, they think they have screwed him up enough to take the White House now. They may be surprised when election day is over, We will see. But they do not care about Americans and the people are stupid
to want to vote for the Republicans. Good luck President Obama. Cheers.
The politicians especially the right wing would oppose any measure that would work because they want Pres. Obama to fail. And when he does it is easier for them to take over the White House after the next election.
What\’s wrong with Warren Buffet wanting to constitute a tax raise on the wealthy? It\’s not like he doesn\’t have the money.
It\’s obvious Obama\’s working up bills that aren\’t getting approved, and it probably is both the republicans and the democrats fault. No one\’s ever fully explained to me why there isn\’t any work.
second attempt at leaving a comment on here. I see triond is making no improvements in some areas.
It’s really sad that the members of the tea party as well as many Republicans don’t care about the country. I hope Obama pulls a Harry Truman. Not only elect him for a second term but give him a majority in both the house and the senate. I wonder how much of this is racist?
I guess it’s not new,it’s always been like it,sad.
The tea partiers have left a bad taste in my mouth. Obama comes up with a plan that can lower the debt by 5 trillion and they shoot it down. What can I say?
Great article. Yes, we have so many problems in this country and without stimulation of the economy, the problems are bound to get worse.
Got to know something from here.
Things will not get any better until we have a new President. Excellent article.
And things could just as easily get worse with a new President.
Excuse me, LJ Spain? The Dems went 18 months without even drafting a budget, and it was the Repubs who introduced the big spending reduction bills leading up to the debt ceiling deadline. I should remind you two of those bills were tabled by the (dis)honorable Harry Reid.
This article is full of nonsense actually. That healthcare “reform” boondoggle was passed without the party of no, as you so cleverly (sic) put it, and there have since been nearly 1500 waivers issued, many in Democrat distracts (like Pelosi’s). The full nightmare of this bill has yet to be unleashed, and if it is allowed to stand, I can’t wait to say, “I told you so.”
Also, since when does the GOVERNMENT create jobs, Dennis? Govt. jobs drain the private sector, and I am damn proud to have helped vote in the tea party contingent last year because we have seen just how swimmingly well the previous stimulus and money printing sessions have gone. How many more would you have in the name of infrastructure improvements, Dennis?
Finally, as much as I hate crony capitalists like GE (if you’re so opposed to them, why aren’t you speaking out against Immelt and the so-called jobs czar sending entire divisions to China?), the financial division losses were in the neighborhood of $32 billion, and their tax responsibilities are set to rise:
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-03-31/immelt-says-ge-tax-rate-declined-on-losses-and-calls-for-reform.html
This is why I have trouble listening to those who do little but whine and moan about corporations not paying their fair share all the time. The issue is too complex to always be railing against them as the source of our troubles. Ending the loopholes by simplifying the tax code would be a step in the right direction…a fair tax would go a long ways in making this happen, though I know you progressives would cry a bloody river if it came close to being passed.
I am not a fan of crony capitalists or those in bed with lobbyists, btw. I am a fan of the tea party (the original, as championed by Ron Paul and his followers) contingent that has promised to trim the fat and cut off the hideous influence that lobbyists have had in corrupting the body politic.
Finally, here’s the most recent list of the most wealthiest Congresspersons:
Rank Name Approx. Net Worth
1 Darrell Issa (R-Calif) $303,575,011
2 Jane Harman (D-Calif) $293,454,761
3 John Kerry (D-Mass) $238,812,296
4 Mark Warner (D-Va) $174,385,102
5 Jared Polis (D-Colo) $160,909,068
6 Herb Kohl (D-Wis) $160,302,011
7 Vernon Buchanan (R-Fla) $148,373,160
8 Michael McCaul (R-Texas) $137,611,043
9 Jay Rockefeller (D-WVa) $98,832,010
10 Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif) $77,082,134
11 Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) $76,886,611
12 Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif) $58,436,537
13 Alan Mark Grayson (D-Fla) $54,966,522
14 James E. Risch (R-Idaho) $54,517,026
15 Gary Miller (R-Calif) $51,833,526
16 Bob Corker (R-Tenn) $50,717,522
17 Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-NJ) $43,797,589
18 Nita M. Lowey (D-NY) $39,012,518
19 Kenny Ewell Marchant (R-Texas) $38,204,868
20 Brian P. Bilbray (R-Calif) $37,819,629
21 Harry Teague (D-NM) $37,102,019
22 Denny Rehberg (R-Mont) $31,421,505
23 Hillary Clinton $31,243,506
24 Olympia J. Snowe (R-Maine) $28,612,527
25 Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn) $28,116,022
Barack is purportedly around $5 million himself. Basically, this is an even match between Rs and Ds, which should serve as a little reminder that you are being played if you think either of these parties truly holds the interest of the middle class at heart, much less the poor.
Another interesting factoid, many politicians during the Great Depression (#1) were making $9K a year, while the public (when they could find work) was only pulling in 1/9th of that.
Aristocracy defined.
Since we are stuck in this 2-party system (until the revolution begins, which may very well happen), I am only interested in new faces who have made achievements on their own merits and constitutionally solid candidates (who have a track record to prove it), not puppets or bankrolled individuals but actual grassroots support.
I realise Americans tend to be insular and not look outside the US but the mess in the US is affecting the whole world, so the sooner your politicians put the country ahead of their own self interest the better for all of us – good luck with that.
Interesting article Dennis, It hard to dig your way out of a hole the size he had to deal with. I think he has done a pretty good job so far. To solve this problem we must work as a team and stop pointing fingers. Just my opinion.
nice sharing
Well, Free, I think you got something there. The Republicans still want to run things even though they lost the presidency. Personally, I think such behavior during wartime could be called treasonous, and the last time I looked we were still at war.
The Dems had full control in 2009-2011 (with both Houses of Congress possessing control since 2006). How much more time do they need?
At some point, you have to come to the conclusion that maybe the hero you dreamed as your savior may not be the white knight in shining armor you had once hoped, but may actually have ill intentions in mind. I can think of no other explanation for blatant incompetence for someone who is supposedly such a genius, that we would be lucky to grovel at his aristocratic feet.
BS BS BS
I don’t know why US politicians love to interfere in other countries instead of working for welfare of their own people.
The right wing thugs are worried about what your friend AndAnotherThing is doing to the reputation of Ulsterman and they do not care for you Freethinking either. They are behind articles being removed or moved elsewhere. Keep up the good work as you are getting at them.
nice
Where are you Freethinking? I hope all is well. I wanted to celebrate with you the fact that Ulsterman has had to stop publishing here because even his most stupid followers realized he was a liar. Like Ulsterman with Conscience wrote above we are “getting at them” – don’t it feel good?!
Nice share..
I read somewhere that success is measured by how much opposition is encountered. My only measure however, is how much has improved in the life of the ordinary citizen living below the poverty line.
