Clinton continues to enjoy support from white, working-class voters/families.
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton has taken 20 out of the 28 available super delegates in West Virginia and winning 67% of the vote in contrast to Obama’s 26%, thus reinforcing the fact that Obama still has work to do if he wants to woo working class citizens. Clinton won the Mountaineer State because of demographics.
25% of the West Virginia electorate was at least 60 with a similar percentage possessing only a high school diploma. Finally, more than half of the electorate was from families earning less than $50K per year which reinforces Obama’s continued inability to win over white working class voters which may have been due to continued fallout over the remarks by Obama’s former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Obama now has 1884 (rounded to the nearest whole number) super delegates while Clinton has 1717 (exact count). So, it’s still very close.
