If you want long-term economic stability, you need good education. Putting smart people into the work force will make our economy strong.
So far I’m a supporter of president Obama’s stimulus plan, unlike some people who just don’t see the importance of the idea of it at this time. I’m not a huge fan of spending 800 billion in tax payer’s money, but in a time like this, it is necessary. Job creation is most important right now, and sadly, Government spending is needed to put people back to work.
Most of the Republicans in the House and in the Senate say there aren’t enough tax cuts in Obama’s stimulus package. But I disagree. Tax cuts are necessary right now, but the Government will need money for operating its functions and helping the economy later on. So too many could just dig the ditch ever deeper.
Pork is also an argument. But I’ve taken a gander through the economic spending bill and I haven’t seen anything that wouldn’t create work for many Americans. Many rumors have been linked to this plan that aren’t true. Most of those rumors are about unnecessary spending. Money going to fund tennis courts, a mafia museum in Las Vegas, and new hotels and water parks in Philadelphia. These things are not on the list of the stimulus package.
Most of the money is going towards bridges, highways, dams and levies, water treatment centers and power plants, paving dirt roads, and railroad upgrades and so on. So not only with this create high paying construction jobs but it will also upgrade are entire infrastructure, but consumer spending will also go up and save many other jobs.
Another thing that people are worried about; that the jobs will go mostly to illegal immigrants. But, using only legal contractors, who hire only legal personal that have Social Security numbers and or birth certificates, or green cards, there is no room for illegal immigrants to get in on this payroll. Trust me; those jobs will go to real Americans.
The only thing that I do not like is that there is absolutely no money going into the education system, whatsoever. If you want long-term economic stability, you need good education. Putting smart people into the work force will make our economy strong. And we should start focusing more on that.
Overall I support this bill. Read up on it, the truth is there, and so are the jobs. Thank you.

Hello Nick
I know you wrote this article in February and alot of the issues you discuss where the areas of concern at the time.
But since then it has been dishearting to see that Obama and particularly Joe Biden can not really account for where the jobs are that have been created. Joe Biden was annoited czar of the project and last week Biden said, “Well we really don’t know where the jobs are and we knew alot of money would be wasted.” Kinda sad since then Joe has been scripted. The two primary places jobs have been created is the 7 weeks summer jobs program for youths 17-22 who qualify and more state and federal jobs which only make governement bigger and spend more money. Well anyway I like your article-keep up the good work. regards and best wishes
Note that several Nobel Prize-winning economists have said that the big problem with the stimulus is that there wasn’t enough money spent.
