A political article on the Republican ideological collapse.

If you have ever had any doubts about whether the two leading political parties cared more about winning elections and having power, or actually promoting the ideology of their constituents, the talk amongst the six men running for head of the Republican national committee should set you straight; The only ideology they care about is one that will win an election.

You will continue to hear them paying homage to grass roots conservatives by claiming to continue supporting gun rights and low taxes, some of the issues that would cause an immediate freeze in support received from the red states. Bush will continue to be the scapegoat for the Republican Party, as they will pile all the blame on him for big government spending, sounding much like the younger brother who blames his older sibling for not keeping him out of trouble.

There is some truth to this when you consider that Bush only vetoed one bill in the six years congress was controlled by the Republican majority, and that single veto came four months before the Democrats trounced the Republicans in the 2006 elections and he has vetoed eleven bills since. The Republican congressman would have us forget that it was congress sending these pork filled bills through, and congress that wouldn’t put together a bill that Bush requested to allow him the power of the line item veto to help curtail the ridiculous spending.

In the recent debate among these six leading candidates one of the two African-American gentlemen, Michael Steele former Lt. Gov. of Maryland asked the other candidates if they’d ever attended an NAACP meeting, another candidate who is head of the Hispanic Leadership Fund blamed the Republican tone on immigration for losing the Latino vote, all of the candidates expressed a desire for the party to become more tolerant of conflicting viewpoints. And of course the word “change” was used at least once. Something tells me that the Republican answer for 2010 is going to be to sound more like Democrats.

The tendency the Republicans have shown, since the Contract With America fizzled out, to compromise and water down their own rhetoric when the Left calls them names has shown me, a Republican supporter, only one thing; And that is there isn’t a nickel ‘s worth of difference between either party, they will throw what they believe to the wolves if only to keep them in power for another day.

What is the point of having two opposing parties if they only care about being in power? We could save so much time and money if we just had one! Think about it, if you’re a political entity who is dedicated to keeping power, and not upholding ideology, than you might as well have one party and let the countries policies be decided on by misleading polls and internet voters who spend more time watching Saturday Night Live than they do watching the news and researching issues.

You don’t see the American Communist party embracing capitalism because it is popular; they have an ideology, which they wouldn’t trade for millions of votes. If the Republican party is to survive the next couple election cycles they need to get back to the promises that made this country great, the same ideological roadmap that Reagan used to break the monopoly that the Democratic congress had over government since the New Deal. The same values and principals that we’ve always fallen back on in times of trouble, and have seen ignored when the government could afford to.

It may be rough couple elections, and the sun may set on the GOP, but as long as men desire Liberty the promise of this nation shall not die. We have some exciting times ahead of us, and I hope that we can remain strong, and not sacrifice our integrity for political gain, which shifts like the winds. I pray that as Conservatives we can hold to our beliefs in the face of the coming storm.
