Herein we yield a frank and honest evaluation of US television news commentators as they look at the United States 2008 election, and the extent to which many just don’t get it anymore.
It seems many US television news commentators continue to marvel at the non-divisiveness of the various speakers at the 2008 Democratic National Convention. They say the Democrats are missing the opportunity to sway swing voters, as if using negative mud slinging tactics is the only viable approach to accomplishing that goal.
They are wrong!
They keep asking the wrong question, when they ask, “Why are the Democrats not resorting to the low blows and personal attacks upon Sen. McCain?” They keep expecting the proverbial axe to drop, and continue to point out their sure conviction that the Republicans will fill their convention with such attacks upon Sen. Obama. On the former they continue to be wrong, but on the later they are most likely on the mark.
Simple Answer
There is a simple answer to the questions of these incredulous commentators, but I doubt it’s an answer they can really appreciate. The answer is that Democrats are finally reflecting the genuine feelings of the people. We are sick and tired of the divisiveness, and will no longer be so low. Simply put, the Democrats have risen above such pettiness, and are better than such politics as usual. This time around their politics will be instead, politics as unusual.
Divisiveness is Inferior!
Let the Republicans continue with their common low brow divisiveness, resorting to personal slurs, petty mud slinging, and continue to disgust the so called swing voters into voting for those who know how to be civil.
The Civil approach is Superior!
The civil non-divisiveness approach is decidedly superior. It reveals strength of character, lacking in those who resort to spiteful personal attacks. It is actually the best tactic, for it is the correct way for anyone and indeed everyone to behave. If both the television commentators and the Republicans can not see that, it can only be because they’ve lost the ability to actually be civil. And if that is true, then they no longer deserve either our respect or our votes. That is exactly why they don’t get it, and probably never will.
This Change is a much welcomed breath of fresh air
The true majority, swing voters included, are fed up with the corruption typified by the last eight years. We need this fresh air. It is time for the changes offered by Sen. Obama and the Democrats. It is time for “Politics as Unusual”.

That’s why I watch CSPAN, no commentators, just the real deal and no commercials either!
Very good article. We do need a fresh change!
And we got that fresh change, now.
It not just “Yes we can!”, but now it’s “Yes we did!”
I take issue with the idea that Democrats are now representing what people think. I don’t think it is that clear cut. WHile he got slaughtered in the electoral vote McCain got about 47 percent of the popular vote.
Now consider Bush has a horrible rating, the economy is a wreck (and 60 percent of the voters said the economy was #1).
If a democrat couldn’t win in an environment this hostile to Republicans (or at least the incumbent), then that would have been the shock.
It is surprising that Obama did not win by a higher margin. This country is still very divided. There is not one set of beliefs American has, but quite the range, and I certainly can’t agree that the Democratic party represents everyone in America, especially with the recent interest in third parties.
I’m back! Sorry for delaying communication. I experienced Poor Internet connection… huhuhu… Nice one!
Great info and i agree
Great information and well written.
very true. That’s really why I hate politics, people say one thing and do another. Also the reason why I enjoy the Daily Show and Colbert Report so much.
