John McCain wanted a game changer, but his choice was Joe Lieberman, not Sarah Palin. But according to someone extremely close to the campaign, McCain advisors made his choice for him.

“They told him that he would loose most of his party’s vote is he chose Joe Lieberman”, he said. “They also said that McCain needed someone like Senator Obama on the ticket. If you can find a conservative female, who is young and not from Washington, you can win this election.”

“There is no way he is picking Sarah Palin”, I said. But an hour later, major news networks were confirming that it was indeed Sarah Palin. The McCain campaign, not John McCain, believed that only way they could beat Obama was to join in on the “change” theme. They felt like change trumps experience every time and there was no possible way that they could win. But, how would they sell Sarah Palin?

“They are going to tout her as having executive experience and say that she is a reformer. They will also try to win over Hillary supporters by bringing sexism into the campaign. They know that the media and the Obama campaign will jump all over her. When they do, they will say that the media and the Obama campaign are being sexist. The Hillary supporters know all about this issue, you better believe that.

Our insider was also stating that they only had a few days to vet her and realize some issues could arise. But the McCain campaign felt that they could fight back with labeling Obama as a sexist, lowering his poll numbers with the women, and having Palin attack Obama head-on.
