A summed up review of the National Republican Convention in 2008.
There were several people who spoke during the Republican convention. There were also several subjects that they referred their opinions to. Here I will recognize these subjects, and what each candidate(that talked about it)’s opinion was on each.
The budget and economy: Sarah Palin- Sarah Palin was the only one to majorly advance this subject. She said that she will do everything in her power to control economic spending, and money flow. She stated: “I got rid of a few things in the governor’s office that I didn’t believe our citizens should have to pay for. That luxury jet [for personal use by the governor] was over the top. I put it on eBay. I also drive myself to work.
And I thought we could muddle through without the governor’s personal chef–although I’ve got to admit that sometimes my kids sure miss her. I came to office promising to control spending–by request if possible and by veto if necessary.”
Civil Rights: Mike Huckabee was the one to fully address the subject of civil rights. He said he was the most appropriate to address it, as he witnessed it firsthand, and shared the experience. He said he would do everything in his power to make sure nothing of that kind would happen.
Education: John McCain addressed the issue of education, mostly. He said we need to give rewards to good teachers, and encourage the bad ones, so every student can have equal learning chances. He stated,” Education is the civil rights issue of this century. Equal access to public education has been gained. But what is the value of access to a failing school? We need to shake up failed school bureaucracies with competition, empower parents with choice. Let’s remove barriers to qualified instructors, attract and reward good teachers, and help bad teachers find another line of work.”
Energy and Oil: Both Sarah Palin and John McCain addressed the issue of energy and oil. Sarah Palin said that we need to worry more about our own fuel, than fuel internationally, when she stated,” The stakes for our nation could not be higher. When a hurricane strikes in the Gulf of Mexico, this country should not be so dependent on imported oil that we are forced to draw from our Strategic Petroleum Reserve. And families cannot throw away more an more of their paychecks on gas and heating oil.” Also, John McCain agreed with her, and added,” We’ll attack the energy problem on every front. We’ll produce more energy at home. We will drill new wells offshore and we’ll drill them now. We’ll build more nuclear power plants. We’ll develop clean coal technology.
These were the most important issues addressed in the National Republican Convention of 2008. There were other issues addressed, like government reform, but that wasn’t as important as any of the ones mentioned above.
