This article covers the Czars in the Obama Administration. They have been the subject of daily attention in some areas of the media, because of the growing number of these positions.
Being a Czar in the Obama’s administration seems to be the way to go. They now number 32, and make you wonder how many more are there to come. One position, so far, that has been missed, however, and could be number #33, the “Truth Czar”. That would be helpful to add credibility, and prevent the “double speak” that comes from the White House. Since there are no limits, the 34th Czar could be the “No Spin” Czar, to prevent the unusual level of spinning by the Administration and Congress. The White House, a “No Spin White House” Is that possible? I doubt that.
These Czars are well paid, earning between $158,500 and $172,200, and using just the lower level of $158,500, this calculates to $5,072,000 annually. We, the public, have to “tighten our belts” but the government, rather than decreasing the size of government, have rapidly increased in size. The United States relies on China, our competitor in the Global economy, to back our debt, but you could never tell, given the lifestyle of the administration, and the congress. The Congressional Budget Office (C.B.O) announced this week that the current spending deficit in the first nine months of 2009 fiscal year is $1,080,000,000,000 ($1.08 Trillion). The overall national debt is in excess of $11 Trillion. How can we get the Obama’s Administration and Congress to understand that the country has no money, and the country cannot afford to employ these Czars? Instead of employing 32 Czars for $5,072,000 (5.72 million) the government could “create” jobs for approximately 253 persons at $20000 annually. This would also reduce the amount the country pays out for unemployment benefits.
These Czars are designing policies in our country, and are neither subject to congressional approval or oversight. They do what they want, when they want, and the public through its elected representatives have no recourse. Except for Senator Robert Byrd, a Democrat, and some members of the media, appointment of these Czars have gone unchallenged by the democratic senate and congress. They are indeed very powerful individuals, and it proves that elections have consequences. Who will protect the “little man” in our country?
