As former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel begins his Chicago mayoral campaign, political insiders note the seeming battle being waged by the Obama White House to prevent Emanuel from doing so. The question now is – WHY?

Barack Obama and James Meeks
If any dispute remains of a strong rift having formed between former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and the Obama White House, one need look no further than the actions of Illinois election law attorney Burt Odelson’s aggressive campaign to declare Emanuel ineligible due to residency requirements. Just who is Burt Odelson?
Odelson is a powerful attorney based out of Chicago, a figure with over three decades of election law experience. During that time, he has developed strong ties to such powerful political figures as outgoing Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, Al Gore, and most certainly, Barack Obama. Odelson, in addition to spearheading the legal challenge to Rahm Emanuel, is also acting as an advisor to Illinois State Senator James Meeks – who happens to also be running against Emanuel for Chicago Mayor. Odelson has particularly strong ties to Illinois organized labor groups, serving as general counsel for Local #134 – the same entity that spent considerable resources attempting to elect Alexi Giannoulias to President Obama’s former Illinois senate seat. That is Alexi Ginnoulias of the now failed and highly controversial Chicago Broadway Bank, an institution that onced housed the campaign funds of Barack Obama himself and made tens of millions of dollars in loans to organized crime figures such as Michael Giorango.

James Meeks and Alexi Ginnoulias
As for James Meeks, his own ties to the Chicago political machine are even stronger than those of Odelson – including a long and close personal relationship to President Barack Obama. Meeks played a pivotal role in helping Obama secure both campaign contributions and political clout when Obama ran for U.S. Senate in 2004 – a relationship Obama later attempted to downplay during his subsequent campaign for President in 2008. Meeks, in addition to his role as state Senator, is also the long time pastor of Salem Baptist Church, a church with tens of thousands of members. Like the now infamous Reverend Wright, Meeks was labeled “Obama’s Pastor” at various stages of both mens’ political campaigns, and like Reverend Wright, Meeks own societal views appear to clearly lean to the more extreme. Also of note is the financing ties Meeks shares with other Illinois political power players such as former Governor Rod Blagojevich, Mayor Richard Daley, and President Barack Obama – all were recipients of significant campaign fund raising from convicted criminal Tony Rezko.

Barack Obama and Tony Rezko
In an interview given to a Chicago news program two weeks ago, Meeks stated he was confident President Obama would endorse his campaign for mayor. Obama has made no such endorsement for his former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.
And so we now view a scenario that has a former Obama White House Chief of Staff seemingly facing strong political opposition from Obama White House supported alternatives. What purpose does that serve the White House? Why do they wish to prevent Emanuel from becoming Chicago’s next mayor? What significant rift occurred between Emanuel and President Obama that has led to this ongoing political battle between two high profile Democrats who so recently worked closely together?

I think this is still due to political issues.
More lies from the desperate. The President gave Rahm a big televised send off at the White House and has said several times he would make a great mayor. No such luck for Meeks, who has never been called “Obama’s pastor” by Barack Obama or anyone else but.. you. But you keep waiting for that endorsement! It should come in about… never. Odelson is a Repuglican lackey, like yourself. He was a huge George W. Bush supporter, like you, though after a disasterous eight yearsI wouldn’t blame him if he was trying to hide it now, just like you.
Nice article very well written.
Great share, the video also helped ;]
great share! thanks!
Ulsterman, you must have hit a nerve; you can tell by the tone of “ulie’s” comment, that distinctly nasty hostile trolling that always ends in personal attacks lodged at the messenger, as if a blogger is responsible for intelligent people asking valid questions about an incompetent and dishonest president. It’s amusing to watch.
Keep up with this line of exploration. The bodies are buried in Chicago, close to the surface.
@ Obot “ulie”-
Those 8 “disasterous” (sic) Bush years look like paradise compared to the last 2—so the voters said this November.
Chicago, the land where dead people have been able to vote for years. Any political figure that emerges from Chicago is a crooked as a question mark. I have more respect for the mob.
Interesting but not as funny as The Sarah Palin Insider featuring Todd and Bristol Palin and the matter of Dancing with the Stars

Watch your back Nobummer…..Rahm knows where the bodies are buried and unlike you, he knows how to play this game. That said, I think we should flush Chicago with the strongest anti-pest agent we can find and let them start over. Call Billy the Exterminator. He’s great at catching all kinds of vermin
Why not ask the White House Insider why Mr. and Mrs. Obama are displeased with Mr. Emanuel as they are the same person.
Logic states Mr. Emanuel forced out the Daley machine who supported Obama over Dame Hillary, and the Clinton’s are into political retribution, and in need of a player to keep Illinois in play for Hillary in 2012 in taking it from Mr. Obama if he is not removed by then in the palace coup.
Mr. Emanuel needs to control the Chicago information flow as Mr. Obama’s criminal saga envelops the 2011 political scene, so Mr. Emanuel does not end up before Congress answering that little question concerning his trying to purchase for Obama the Senate seat Rod Blagojevich was arrested for.
That might mean an indictment for Mr. Emanuel.
At least Mr. Emanuel has sort of apologized for foisting the undocumented Obama onto America in his Insider series, at least admitting he was wrong.
It would all be so much easier if first city New York just came out and said, “Mr. Obama duped all of us in his Chicago thugocracy, most of all black Americans who have been left off the bus”.
The Letterman cocktail crowd led by the Washington Post is saying all of this in private. Folks just have to spit out the Obama kook aid, and call it bad drugs, so the country can move on.
When Mr. Obama is removed from office, it is going to have to be Rahm Emanuel and Democrats doing it, just as it was the GOP who removed Richard Nixon.
@Cherry.
Rahm couldn’t be The Insider as The Insider, in one of his interviews, spoke of one of his daughters attending either a lecture or a class that Ulsterman either taught or gave. Emanuel’s children are not old enough to have attended either a lecture or a class taught by Ulsterman.
@anna343,
When I saw the reference to Insider’s daughter taking classes from Ulsterman, I immediately thought it was a red herring, with Ulsterman’s acquiesce…”can’t be Rahm, his kids aren’t that old…”
Everything else in the interviews sounds like RE, right down to the profanity.
@Carl,
Yes, it sounds like Rahm; however, the putting his face in his hands when confronted with what he thinks as “stupidity” and the cursing sounds just like someone else that DOES have children that are old enough to have had Ulsterman as a teacher. Rahm is a much more polished speaker, although dirty-mouthed. He’s not country at all…..this guy is.
The phrases he uses are just like the ones I’ve heard him use. I’ve heard him say, “I may look like a hick, but…………” And, I can see him as he talks…..not going to say any more.
Who knows? We may never know. But, I think I’ve got him pegged.
like THE ARTICLE, great post
