Cyber attacks.
There were some devastating cyber attacks in South Korea and the U.S. What are these cyber attacks, and what have they done to South Korea and the U.S?
First Wave: The first wave occured on July 4th, in the U.S. There were some major websites targeted, such as the White House, and the Pentagon. A detailed investigation showed that 27 different websites were hacked. Luckily, the objective was to disrupt the website’s activity, not steal valuable information.
Second Wave: This wave started on July 7, 2009. The victimized websites were the Blue House (Korean White House), Ministry of Defense and the National Assembly. Luckily, it only disrupted activity here as well.
Third Wave: This wave also targeted websites in Korea. July 9, 2009. It hacked South Korea’s intelligence service and the largest bank in South Korea.
Effects: disrupted South Korean and American activities, no information stolen. Used 23 megabits of information. Lots of money will be involved in the recovering of the websites. South Korea media claims North Korea is behind this, but is not included in the 86 IP adresses for the hacking. These IP adresses were from America, China, Guatemala, and Japan. Another suggestion is the Mydoom worm, a worm in computering made by an unsophisticated criminal.
Whatever the case, this hack is proving more deadly than for granted.
Tips: after you turn on your computer, hold the power button until it forces it to turn off. Then turn it on. It’ll lead to a mode where you can select which mode. Select “Safe mode.” after you log on, change the date to one or 2 days before, and do a complete scan of your computer. Make sure that you don’t download anything if you’re in America or South Korea.
Whatever you do, be careful- this little rascal has deleted millions of files in computers in America and Korea. ALWAYS BE CAREFUL.
