Romney Telling The Truth? What an Interesting Concept!

There is nothing more embarrassing than catching a politician in his own lies. Still they do it all the time…
When I first studied American Constitution in school, I could never understand why there was this strict requirement of being born on American soil in order to qualify for the office. I heard a lot of explanations, from both the learned side, and the folklore, however they did not really make too much sense. It took me a few years of living in the United States to get the real meaning of this provision.
The reason for being required to be born in this country to run for the highest office, is that only somebody born and raised in this country has a real understanding of the level of scrutiny every person running for the office is subject too. A foreigner can’t imagine, even with a very vivid and colorful imagination, what a candidate is subjected to while running. The privacy laws are tossed in the garbage and no one cares about anything in their chase for discovering details. Everything is game, and at times liable is part of the game, although it should not be. Sometimes, by the time it is discovered that the news were less than true, it may be too late for recovery.
So, one would expect that any candidate who is running has a clean as a whistle life and there is nothing to hold against the person when time for scrutiny comes. All candidates are people of impeccable integrity. One might say that those even had a very underprivileged childhood in order to prepare for their future in the White House… Right? Wrong…
In my thirty years in this country I witnessed a few interesting instances.
Garry Hart, a Democratic candidate a few years back, not only that he had an extra marital affair while running for the office, but challenged the press to follow him and to be convinced that there were only rumors… When some reporters took him up on his invitation, his campaign came abruptly to an end… In more recent years, we all remember John Edwards. Actually the ink on his court records did not even dry yet… He did not invite any journalist to follow him, however some did and they found out his extra marital affair with a young woman. I am not going to talk about the merits of the story, because there are none, however it is another example of a person who should have known better than getting into the scruffy mess while running for the office.
And now, actually a few hours ago, I noticed in the media some talk about Mitt Romney and his business venture Bain Capital. I am not talking about gossip and here say, I am talking about some papers filed with the SEC about his tenure at the firm. During his campaign he kept saying that he left the company before it turned sour and did the things that he is not proud the company did. However forms filed with the Commission read that he did not leave the top position as he said in late ninety, but he was the manager until well into the 2003 when the bad deeds happened, and his fortune grew the most…
Running a little affair on the side, even when your wife is dying of cancer may seem trivial, after all John was still a young man and he needed a female partner, but running for the highers office in the country and saying that you were not with the company, when official documents show totally opposite is a serious issue.
Why would the American people trust a man who either was lying to them, or was lying to the government agencies, by committing fraud in public documents? If he was not with Bain Capital since 1998, and I believe him, why did he sign papers, under penalty of perjury, that he actually was with the company, the only shareholder and the only manager?
I start feeling sorry for this chap. First of all he has to campaign against a law which after all was modeled after the law he supported and he passed while governor. I think that he would have had more chances to sue Obama for copyrights… Now, he has to justify his signature on official papers filed with the SEC. Not only that, but the situation may turn into a serious legal liability. Perjury is a felony and felons can’t run for office…
Now, this is really, really tough… What’s going to be next for the poor chap? Maybe being reborn into Christianity???
