A declaration of the establishment of the People’s republic of America.

My fellow Americans,

Today, a day that will be remembered for eternity, I am proud to announce the creation of a new entity – the People’s Republic of America. From now on let it be known around the world who this country belongs to.

We are not the first to advance this new concept. President Lincoln seven scores and six years ago expressed it eloquently, but due to his untimely death was not able to implement it while we may have the opportunity to do just that. For far too long have many of our friends as well as our foes assumed that this country belongs to some privileged subgroup. Some have falsely suspected that this country belongs to the rich. Others believed that it is the country of the well-connected, but from this moment on let it be clear to all – this country is of the people – not all the people, of course, but still people, and those people to whom I refer know very well who they are.

Today marks a new beginning because this is what we seem to do best. We are simply good at beginnings We have begun so many things that’s it’s almost impossible to begin counting them. We have begun a reform of the financial system, we have begun building two new automobile companies before we even know what to do with the old ones and we have begun to talk about reforming the healthcare system. The thing that we don’t do as well is ending. We are yet to end our invasion of Iraq, our support of the rotten regimes in Saudi Arabia and Egypt, and our interrogations at Guantamo, but these are not as urgent as our new beginnings. As a matter of fact, nothing is. In the meantime let us all join North Korea and the other progressive nations of the world and march bravely into the new millenium. Bla, bla, bla!
