The Specter of Bad Government
Senator Arlen Specter’s recent switch in political parties – from Republican to Democrat – is nothing more than the very portrait of what is wrong with government in the United States today. By his own admission, Specter crossed party lines – for the second time in his political career – purely as a means for re-election. Couple that story with the recent report that five-term incumbent Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) had only five – count them on one hand – supporters from Connecticut listed in official reports. Meanwhile, Senator Dodd raised more than $600,000 from more than 400 persons living outside of the State he represents. It is high time for office-holders to make way for those who count doing what is best for these United States of greater importance than their own personal interests and re-election.
