The US Food and Drug Administration has launched a nationwide effort to test pet food for salmonella contamination, following reports that it may be making pet owners sick. In October investigators started taking samples of dry pet food, treats and dietary pet supplements from PetSmart, PetCo, Wal-Mart, Costco, Sam’s Club and Target. Other retailers of pet supplies have been involved as well.
