A Man Orders His Wife to Breastfeed Puppies

In Uganda, women are like purchased commodities because men pay bride price for their wives and assume a position of a property owner instead of a loving husband. That explains why domestic violence is rampant in rural Uganda and that women are wantonly treated with amazing indignity in a marriage relationship.

 The most shocking case reported in the major dailies of Uganda (The New Vision and Daily Monitor News papers ) recently, which still continues to attract headlines is one in which a woman from a district in Eastern Uganda was forced to suckle five puppies by her husband at spear point! The husband is a renowned squirrel hunter who uses dogs in his hunting adventures. As a result, he has grown to love his dogs in the same measure or even a little more than his own newborn children.

 The wife reported this ordeal last week, but acknowledged that she had been suffering with puppies on her breasts for the last five years. Three of her last four births have died with rubies-like symptoms because every time she gives birth and there are puppies around, her husband would command her with threats of spearing her to death if she refused to breastfeed his puppies. The puppies have often bitten her breasts and caused serious bodily harm to her but her cry never gets the sympathetic ear of her husband who urges on her to continue breastfeeding his puppies.  The husband alludes repeatedly to the fact he married her with two cows, which animals he would have used to feed his puppies but now that the cows are not there, his wife had a duty to step in to give milk to the puppies. All the infants of this couple have been dying before their 6th month and each of them would bark like dogs before their death. Currently, this woman is breastfeeding again and she was forced to come out and report her husband to police because she feared for the life of her only surviving infant.

 This matter has caused outrage among women activists who call for the culprit to be punished severely. Unfortunately for the popular feeling of women activists and many other Ugandans who see this as a crude form of domestic, the police have instead turned around to protect the culprit. The Police report issued on the case has labeled the victimized woman as insane and they have gone ahead to set the man free. Whatever the case may be, the news that a Ugandan woman was forced to breastfeed puppies alongside her own children by her own husband under duress is the worst domestic crime anybody could think of under the sun.
