Sudan is an African country that is run by a president that will gladly sacrifice 100 million people in order to hang onto his power. The international community has charged him with crimes against humanity, and in response he has replied with yet another crime, sentencing the 100 million refugees that fled from recent conflict in Darfur to death.

The crisis in sudan
In Sudan there are camps just like this one above that hold host of thousands of refugees. They all huddle together into one area to allow aid to reach them more efficiently and more quickly, and for the past couple of years they have. International groups such as OXFAM and The Red Cross, the UN and others have been providing these displaced people with food, water, sanitation and medical attention. Without these supplies they would surely die and to put a cease on any of these aids would have dire effects on the whole community. To stop aid getting through would be sentencing all these people to death.
President Omar al-Bashir
Pesident Omar al-Bashir has been running this country of Sudan for the last eight years, in these eight years he has broken nearly every rule in the book, he has helped the conflict escalade in the Darfur forcing the people to flea these areas and tourching their homes so as the wont return. He gave orders to his men to go into these areas and drive the people out by ant means nesessary, he has also ordered them to rape the women and children so they wont return. One of his army men came clean in an interview saying that he was made rape a 12 year old girl and he watched as the other men raped younger children. The solider said he had enough and used the excuse of not getting paid to leave.

To this day there are civilians that fled the recient conflicts camping in refugee camps inside the Sudanese border, there are over 100 million in total. The international community have issued an arrest warrant for his crimes against humanity and in return of this gesture he has halted all aid into the country, he has ordered the immeadate withdrawl of the agencies on the ground and told them to leave his country. International agencies have no alternative but to leave, if they stayed they would be killed. They explained to Omar al-Bashir that this will be the death sentance of 100 million refugees, the Sudanese govenment are well aware of this fact and they wouldn’t give it a second thought.
There are 14 aid agencies in Sudan and they all supplied vital aid, such as clean water, fuel to generate the pumps that they have set up, sanitation collections will cease causing out break of disease and a rise in illnesses. They also supplied food, clothes and basic nessesities that we take for granted. These camps are set up away from major towns as to not put any more strain on the people that live in Sudan and for the aid to reach them easier, but with no aid the incampment will just be an isolated death camp. The people can not go home because there is still conflict there and they can not stay in Sudan anymore now with no aid. To walk to another country for support would be suicide, with no water or food or shelter from the blistering sun. These refugees from another country that have come under fire by other unrelated conflict in Darfur. These 100 million people find themselves stranded and on the edge of survival by the same country that allowed them to take safe heavan inside their borders, have sentanced them all to death.

informative
This is shocking, thank you for bringing our attention to a tragic situation, it puts a lot of things in perspective
This is why I don’t read or watch the news any more. Aid. They provided aid. How about an airlift out of there to somewhere safer? I won’t suggest other, more violent solutions. (I am a pacifist, I am a pacifist…the simplest solution isn’t always the best..I am a pacifist…) Well-written, cogent piece that is emotionally arousing with its directness. (Grrr….I am.. grrr…)
Stephen, this is such relevant information that you’ve written about. More people need to be aware of this. I think Bono of U2 and other musicians are doing everything they can to raise awareness and funds for continued aid. Somebody needs to do something to save those people. This is almost too sad to believe.
Well written and very informative article.
This article is packed with useful information and well written. Great Job.
I believe most educated and knowledgeble people have been keeping track of what’s happening in Sudan. It is such a tragedy that people are treated this way. I do not see any relief in the immediate future.
Wonderful article Steven, everyone should know what is going on there. Unbelievable how the people there are treated.
A very sad but informative piece. The world is a truly sick place, makes me ashamed to be part of the same human race that commits such atrocities. No animal does this to its own kind….and I was under the misguided belief that we had more intelligence.
a very tragic story, i feel sorry for them, all we have to do is to pray for them…
Looks like you put a lot of effort into this. Well thought out.
That sounds so much like Zimbabwe… Its sad and very disturbing what is going on there. Great article. I will pass it on.
100 million? did you just make that figure up in your head Stephen Cardiff? It simply isnt possible, shame because otherwise your article seems to match what ive been reading.
