No one can say precisely what led to the killings.
It started in Bauchi State in the Northern part of Nigeria last week and countless number of people lost their lives coupled with torching of churches, mosques and other buildings.
Now it has spread to other states like Kano, Borno and Yobe where Islamic Militants took up arms against the Nigeria Police. It is purely sectarian viloence and as many as hundred lives have been reported lost in the ongoing madness the men of the Nigeria police are trying to contain.
According to reports, police stations and churches have been razed down. Aside this, prisoners have been set free when a prison was brought down by the rampaging Islamic militants. Innocent people are said to have lost their lives too. Unlucky house owners have had their houses razed to the ground as everybody runs for their dear lives.
Nigeria is known for her sectarian violence and religious killings which date back to as early as few years after she gained her independence from Great Britain. There are violence said to have been instigated by ill-favoured politicians after rigged elections while some are said to be sponsporeed by international Islamic Jihad elements.
Two policemen and a soldier have already been confirmed dead as the security agencies moved in to contain the violence on the orders of the President Mr. Yar’Adua who swung into action after being briefed by his security chiefs.
As at this moment, the violence is still spreading and the police is doing their possible best to contain it against hopes it would not spread to other Northern states or lead to reprisal attacks in the Eastern states if and when the corpses of their loved ones get to them.
