I live in Uganda, but I just can’t understand what devil has come upon my beloved country. Look at the news media today and child ritual killings seem to be a daily occurrence.

Child sacrifice is a pagan way of dealing with the mundane human problems. Africa, especially pre-colonial Afirica was awash with this practice of mutilating children and giving their body parts away to some gods for all sorts of reasons. The witch doctors on most occasion either sanctioned or personally executed the ritual killings.

We are in the 21st centuary and  many would have expected these practices to be completely off the face of the earth, yet amazingly, child sacrifice is actually in a crescendo in Uganda today. I have failed to find real answers to the root causes of this vice but all I can say is that Ugandan children are endangered.  In a recent case that involved a city tycoon, a 12 year old boy was found beheaded in a little town of  central Uganda with some other body parts missing. Arrests were quickly made which saw the city tycoon, his own wife and a witch doctor all behind bars. The tycoon was advised by his witch doctor to behead  a child in a ritual murder so that his wealth, money and power would grow beyond his imaginaon and this is the bottom line of the real problem of child sacrifice in my country.

Most Ugandans engrossed in the spirit world believe that riches are not a product of hard work but are rather, a result of some spiritual spell that comes to fruition  through child sacrifice. The end effect has been the escalating ritual murders of both children and women across the country.

It is now common knowledge in the city of Kampala that the Ugandans involved in child sacrifice actually attain the riches  they dream of, and this has made killing children for their heads and private parts a truely thriving business run by a racket that involves the businessmen, the witch doctors and the hit men hired to lure kids with money to have them killed. In the business premises of these rich men, especially new construction works, human heads and  other body parts are usually burried around the premises with a view to attract wealth and money.

The Government of Uganda and civil society Organizations have woken up to this threat to our children’s welbeing. Witch Doctors who are the driving spiritual force in these killings have been asked to register with government for close monitoring. Culprits arrested in connection with child ritual murders are being considered for public executions. The President of Uganda, Mr. Museveni has expressed his anger at these developments and ordered his state Security Agencies to do all they can to restore calm in the population.

Unfortuantely, this appears to be a vice whose end doesn’t seem to be in sight. Every day, somewhere in central Uganda, a child is being reported killed with missing body parts. We are a christian nation and most of these Killers carry christian names, the question remains, is there more to these waves of child ritual murders than it meets the eye?
