American Troops Being Denied Access to Tobacco Products

Thanks to PACT (Prevent All Cigarette Trafficking), some active duty troops are being denied access to tobacco products…
The United States Postal Service (USPS) is making it difficult for active duty military to receive care packages that contain tobacco products.
The PACT Act (Prevent All Cigarette Trafficking) was written into law in March. They claim that the purpose of this law is to stop illegal tobacco trafficking by making it nearly illegal to mail any of these products, using USPS. The only way around this new law is to mail the tobacco products, using Express Mail services.
Express Mail service is very expensive, and it is not available to many troops serving over seas, in remote areas. If soldiers have access to a PX (Postal Exchange), they can get tobacco products. If they do not have access to a PX? They are out of luck.
In my opinion, this is more than a mistake or a failure on the part of USPS and the people responsible to passing the law. This is a direct attempt to force people to use a more expensive level of mail service. They probably didn’t realize they would be screwing over American troops during active duty, but they still did it. Greed has a funny way of overshadowing common sense.
Luckily, Senator Herb Kohl from Wisconsin and Rep. Duncan Hunter from California are fighting this. They are currently trying to make active duty military exempt from these new laws.
