Fearsome flash floods hit Cagayan de oro and Iligan City last December 15-16,2011 and these photos show how the city was pulverized by the floods.

December 15-16,2011, Typhoon Sendong hit Northern Mindanao and devastated lives, mostly from Cagayan de Oro and in nearby Iligan City. This typhoon gave Mindanao its first major typhoon in decades. The residents were not used to such phenomenon as tropical storms usually hit parts of Luzon and the Visayas. Typhoon Sendong, Washi as its international name, killed thousands of people and hundreds are still missing. Most of the dead were children and women, according to Gwendolyn Pang, Secretary General of the Philippine Red Cross.

It’s heartbreaking to know how the flash floods pulverized the city of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City. Latest news said the cities are running out of coffins due to many dead bodies. More dead bodies are still unidentified and are being placed in an open dump site in Cagayan de Oro.

These photos show how flash floods swept resident’s vehicles and their homes.

These pictures remind me of what we experienced last 3 years ago when Typhoon Ondoy hit Manila. I know how it feels to be a victim of fearsome floods. I am saddened by the effects of flash floods that hit Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City. Let us help the victims. Let us pray for them. We can also send donations, a small amount is a big help to them. Check out this site of my friend for information on how to send donations, be it money or in kind : Miss Macherie
