Kabul Suicide Bomb Kills Six Italian Soldiers

There was another suicide bombing in the capitol of Afghanistan today.  There were six Italian soldiers and ten civilians killed in the attack.  This attack comes on the heels of the Afghan election with a dubious result.

          Hamid Karzai has not officially declared victory yet.  This is a huge step for the country, and the election by legal means is somewhat in doubt.  It is important to show the Afghan people that they have the right to contest such an election.

          The Italian president has called for the removal of NATO troops from the area, citing security concerns.  The Taliban and Al Qaeda have once again shown that the can strike anywhere without warning.  Even people in the capitol are not safe.

          In a country with little to no television, the Taliban are winning huge turf wars using terror tactics.  The Taliban apparently do not need hearts and minds, they deal only in death.

          This country needs to wrap it’s head around a whole new role for combat infantry and the assets they use.  If these changes are not implemented soon, we will have lost another generation, generation x.  This is intelligence-based warfare, clandestine and loosely controlled.

          The Taliban are going for the bang, not the buck.  I hope someone gets that.  The point is, conventional forces are good for clearing, securing, and holding dirt, not so good at intimidating local farmers into helping them instead of the Taliban.

          Why?  Because we are leaving….right?
