Mrs. Meira Kumar to be elected as the First Women Speaker of India

India as the largest democracy in the world, has already got a woman President in Mrs.Pratibha Patel for the first time in the History of India.

In the recently held Lok Sabha Elections, 2009, the Congress I was voted back to power with a thumping majority. Today, the 1 March, 2009, the newly elected Lok Sabha members were sworn in.

Immediately, Congress I, the ruling party moved swiftly and has taken a wise decision in choosing a woman member Mrs.Meira Kumar as the first Woman Speaker of the Lok Sabha ;the post of Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha as per the existing convention has gone to the BJP, the main opposition party. It seems that the election of Meira Kumar as the Speaker of Lok Sabha is a certainty since she has the overwhelming support of the ruling party Congress I and also the support of BJP and communist parties too.Mrs.Meira Kumar, who was earlier appointed and sworn in as a cabinet minister is resigning her post so as to enable her to get elected as the Speaker of the Lok Sabaha.

Mrs.Meira Kumar has worthy credentials to be chosen as the first woman speaker of the Indian Lok Sabha. She is the daughter of late. Jagjivan Ram, an eminent Indian politician and a long time central minister. She belongs to the scheduled caste, a backward community.After completing her college education, Mrs.Meira Kumar had become a member of Indian Foreign Service.Having rendered a distinguished service in the IFS, Mrs.Meira Kumar resigned from IFS and plunged into politics.Eversince, she entered politics, she was a successful politician also.She has been elected five times from her Lok Sabha constituency for the Lok Sabha. Above all she is a very simple and so humble politician.

No doubt Mrs.Meira Kumar, a seasoned politician, well educated and a former diplomat will render justice to her post and will serve as an impartial speaker of the Lok Sabha.It seems that the ruling party Congress I has also been making amends for not still passing the 33 % Women’s Reservation Bill. Now it has begun to champion the cause of women in right earnest.

By choosing Mrs.Meira Kumar as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha for the first time, India as the largest democracy in the world is also setting an example to the other countries of the world, which believe in democracy.
