A very small description of the Kashmir conflict and how it relates to the people living in Northern Pakistan.

After India became its own country and separated the majority of its ties with Britain, a dispute started between Pakistan and India over the Kashmir territory. Both countries have staked their claim to Kashmir, this then escalated into a military conflict along the Line Of Control separating the Pakistani and Indian passes in the Kashmir region. This ongoing conflict started in 1947 and has had multiple military flare-ups since.

Elaborating on this conflict is a good addition to the book Three Cups of Tea because it shows how huge of an impact the fighting can make in the lives of people that live in the region. Even though the governments of the opposing countries are willing to fight for years over this small section of land, the people are obviously better off without the conflict in their day-to-day lives. The determination showed by the people in dealing with this hardship shows their resilience and willingness to repair their society. Greg wants to highlight this ambition and willingness of the people living in this area.
