Project Mill Creek

There has been much huffing and puffing about wind farming in this country over the last year.

Today I’m here to tell you about the new plans for windmills to be put up in the Ohariu Valley district. I think windmills would be the most efficient energy producer in the Wellington area. They produce more energy when in windy conditions and that makes windmills perfect for the windy Wellington area. I could never think of a more productive energy producer for the Wellington region.

A lot of people are opposed to windmills for the fact that windmills ruin views. This may which in some cases will decrease house value. For example if a house is being sold potential may be put off by the big windmills in the background.

A fact that Meridian energy has pointed out is that windmills would be the best power source in Wellington. This is because of the amount of wind and the speed of it. For example the speed of the wind would help create make more power which would help the power which would help the power costs go down.

Another reason people oppose the windmills is the amount of films that have been filmed around there Black sheep, parts of lord of the rings and many more movies which were filmed at least partially at ohariu valley. They were filmed not far from where the wind farm is planned to be built. Building the wind farm could destroy a potential movie spot

My opinion is that the wind farm should go ahead because earlier this year the hydro electric dams down in the south island ran low and power prices went up luckily this year people throughout new Zealand managed to save enough electricity to avoid power cuts in winter. However if dam levels fall another year there is no guarantee that the New Zealand public would be able to save enough energy to avoid power cuts. it would be nice to know that we have wind farms to turn to help
