On the teacher’s strike crisis circling Australia.
Surely I am not the only person sick of hearing about the teacher strikes. Teachers are supposed to act as role models to the younger generation. So what sort of example are they setting by taking such drastic industrial action? Teachers as a unit are abusing their position by striking. There pay situation is no better or no worse then a nurses and yet nurses are unable to strike because of their moral obligation to the care of the patients. No teachers are in a position of power because the know there striking puts an extra burden on most households and with most parents working full time this is a hassle many can’t deal with. What if other employment groups followed the action of teacher s by walking off the job? For example if policemen were to strike or nurses or firefighters.
But you see none of these groups actually take the action as they know that them striking would result in potentially threatening situations towards innocent bystanders. No teachers take advantage of the fact that striking in their line of work doesn’t directly hurt anyone. Surely they must see though that disobeying laws that ban industrial action is only going to make government groups less likely to want to negotiate with their union. It is apparent to this humble observer that the logical way for teachers to attempt to resolve the pay dispute is peacefully over a table rather then protesting outside Parliament House. I understand that teaching is a demanding job and it takes a select few to fulfill the intense job requirements. And yes I believe that teachers are underpaid but there are so many more peaceful ways to go about resolving this problem rather then put such unnecessary hassles on already struggling families.
