In the UK and across Europe the news of the moment is about the volcano in Iceland which is putting ash into the skies and closing airports across the continent. But a photograph has just been published which shows how awesome nature can be, with forked lightning bolts alongside the rising plume of volcanic ash.

The British newspaper News of the World today (April18 2010) published the incredible photograph shown above. It is an awesome sight, showing nature at her most powerful with lightning over the Icelandic volcano.
Eyjafjallajokull, which had been dormant for 200 years, is putting up ash to a height of 6 kilometers and of 22,000 European flights which should have been airborne only 5,000 actually took off, because of the fear of the volcanic ash getting into the aircraft’s engines.
There is a worry, from experts, that this volcano may trigger the neighbouring and larger volcano Katla. The paper quotes an interview with Gunnar Geison: “If you think this is bad, wait until Katla erupts. The ash cloud will be a hundred times worse. It will affect the whole world”, predicting that it would be putting up ash clouds for years.
The following incredible picture was also published
The newspaper, unfortunately, did not name the photographer who took them or its source.

Great photos. I wonder how the atmosphere, climate and air quality in Northern Europe will be affected if the other one goes up.
I’ve read that in the past when a large volcano erupts it can block the sun’s rays and cause cool weather for several years. I’m tired of winter, so I hope that other volcano stays dormant!
FAKE
Fake or not the pictures are really cool.
It’s not fake I saw the same think on the news. I think it’s a great shot.
Those are amazing photos. I had hoped the problem would be over more or less today but this morning a new cloud is coming over Britain causing further disruption.
Christine
great pics
Wow cool pics
Awesome!
That’s both incredibly eerie and beautiful. I remember reading about the Bandai volcano in 1888, and how its eruption clouded the sun for months, making the days and nights hazy. If the neighboring volcano in Iceland erupts, I think that would be bad trouble considering the type of volcano it is..
nice fake pics the media is over blowing this volcano thing. the Iceland volcanic situation is 2 ground many planes in Europe, further devastating the world economy as the illuminati is behind this
guys can you prove its fake or at least give reasons? otherwise it just makes you sound childish and pretentious.
regardless of whether they’re genuine or not.
I love the pics
Why must we in Denmark suffer from cold weather, caused by Icelandic volcanoes?!
Nature IS awesome and humbling.
The earth will shiver and quake to right the wrongs we have done.
Awesome shot but something terrifying to look forward to.
wohooo, very very nice shot!! love this1 it’s like ripped from an james cameron movie:D
More please ! Awestruck . j
zues must have been pissed haha
Magnificent! I wonder where the photographers took the photos from.
Good shots!
Great shots, thank you for submitting.
Lightning caused by volcanic ash is very real you fools who think this is fake. The electricity is caused from the charges, and such large ash clouds have tremendous electrical charges, which release as lightning.
Nature is so amazing and the pictures are so stunning. It is a fact that the volcanoes are a real concern to the whole world. I wonder what is going to happen next.
the whole thing is just tragic. Your pictures bring it in close and personal
A very good and true information. I am also reading seriously about the volcanic eruption in Iceland. I am also aware of its future blast. It will have an impact throughout the universe. I can only pray to God to save this world from any other future catastrophe. Let us work in unison with each other and do not cause any sort of nuclear harm to others.

Compelling images! Great piece, Chris!

Amazing pictures indeed!
Amazing pictures, this has certainly caused a huge amount of disruption although things appear to be getting back to normal now, I wonder what the total cost to the airlines and airports will be!

Good topic, makes us realise we are just mere humans living on this earth, it disrupted Britain for quite a few days. Hopefully all is well now but it makes you think!!

Awesome pictures. They show how powerful and yet beautiful nature can be at the same time.
Amazing pictures
the information was very good too thanks for submitting this!
Amazing picture….I wonder how much CO2 is being thrust into our enviroment from that big mother?! It just goes to show that we are no more than a very minor skin rash on this planet, and that man’s impact is next to nothing.
Keep up the great work..

Oh I saw this picture in a newspaper.
Wow, great photo. All those heavily charged dust particles from volcano going out into the area must have caused some very interested lightning flashes.
Great photos. After the outbrake of the volcano we had a ‘dark’ spring, the sky was always filled with dark clouds.
I realize this is an old article, but those are incredible photos.
