The British newspaper News of the World today (April18 2010) published the incredible photograph shown above. It is an awesome sight, showing nature at her most powerful with lightning over the Icelandic volcano.

Eyjafjallajokull, which had been dormant for 200 years, is putting up ash to a height of 6 kilometers and of 22,000 European flights which should have been airborne only 5,000 actually took off, because of the fear of the volcanic ash getting into the aircraft’s engines.

There is a worry, from experts, that this volcano may trigger the neighbouring and larger volcano Katla. The paper quotes an interview with Gunnar Geison: “If you think this is bad, wait until Katla erupts. The ash cloud will be a hundred times worse. It will affect the whole world”, predicting that it would be putting up ash clouds for years.
