Enough of the high treason!
Small Central European and Mediterranean country is rich with water, gas, stone, oil, woods and thousand islands but Croatians somehow managed to stay undeveloped.
Ex prime-minister Ivo Sanader (in the prison) sold out some of the most important companies to the foreigners.
In Croatia, more than 95% of the banks are owned by the foreigners.
Current government is following that example and Croatian people cannot take it anymore.
Enough is enough.

You didn’t mention in the article that those “young desperate protesters” (all 200 of them) are actually neo-nazi youth who glorify Hitler, hate Serbs and everybody else, don’t want to work, but they just like protest and think Croatia could become like Libia or something.

Well, in all honesty Mario is partially right. I wouldn’t go as far as him and say that they all are “neo-nazis” but they are far-right – I was there in vicinity prior to the clash with police… but that’s the least important part.
Interesting is the failure to mention real reason for protest, and also, being a professional in oil industry, I can tell with certainty that Croatia is NOT rich with gas and oil, gas production can cover barely 40% (not sure about the exact figure but it’s in that area) of domestic consumption and oil production is even lower (about 15% of domestic consumption)…so for the country that doesn’t export gas and oil you can’t say it’s rich in those resources.
But, it’ll take this “article” as a mere blog post and nothing more, probably by a person that doesn’t live in Croatia, since if it this was an article written by a real journalist I’d expect a bit more accuracy in stated facts, which are more or less untrue, unfortunately. Shame really, if those were the reasons that started these protests, I probably wouldn’t be here but out there on the street, but like I said that’s not the reason.

wonderful article. let’s hope it means something to the world and gets results. I moved away long time ago to US from Croatia but my heart is still there. Way to much corruption. Like a huge pyramid of “clean” crime. People often ask me to come back…but it is mere impossible with the scum that runs my dear country.
As far as serbs, jews, nazis…common guys..don’t live in the past but look towards bright future. It is EASY to hate but to be humble is a gift. Yes, I am one of those that was in the war when it broke and to this day I don’t understand why so many lives were lost. But I know one thing that started it and that was corrupted government and people that didn’t have high school finished believing that war is the right thing. There are many nice people around croatia, serbia and bosnia…but then there are those that need to calm down and get a different point of view.
So yes to the protest and to the power of youth. PUSH with everything you got.
Just to be correct, our government IS currupt and doing bad, but we got elections coming this year and those people will get the chance (again) to choose somebody else. So i don’t get the point of all those protests, yelling, attacking people…i just don’t get it.
Just like i don’t get those “desperate youth” (i’m young, too – and i’m not a protester) who cannot accept the fact that not all the people think like they do. There’s only few hundreds of you, thank God. Accept it, we’re not the same. There ARE people with different opinions, different views. I cannot support violent far-right protesters, that’s my choice. The protest is not in any way “far-right”, that is a pretty mixed up group outhere, as far as I can see.
Point is that they want elections now, not in six months. The truth is that our government is utterly incapable of running a family store, not to mention our country. They weren’t elected, they “got a job” from a guy who is lying in prison in Austria.
The only things that are wrong in the article is that Croatia is not rich in gas&oil, and that it tends to make you think that Obama said the words in the title, misleading the scan reader, maybe even on purpose.
Where did you find the fact that Obama said that?
The USA just say they protect personal freedoms and free flow of information; in reality, they are just like our government, which is their obedient puppet; only with their scary propaganda and brainwashing machine.

Ok most of you don\’t understand the difference between PROTESTS and RIOTS! If people are unhappy with the state of things they have a right to protest on the streets. But to use the bad situation that we are in to start riots is another matter. Civilian disobedience is one of many ways to get the attention, but when you attack a police officer with a traffic sign pole for no apparent reason, thats a riot. And then you get your head bashed in. If you seek the truth we need to take a look way back because this state of things didn\’t start with this goverment, its been piling up for the past 20 years and what we see today is culmination of things. And please don\’t be naive thinking that new goverment will change things and make Monte Carlo out of us in a day. The left wing parties that will take over are followers of the same idea that we fought 20 years ago. Their competence is questionable to say at least. To give you a taste of their future just take a look at their work governing the city of Zagreb in a past decade or Dubrovnik in a past 2 years. Fiasco after fiasco, bribery, destruction of solid public companies, hell they even tried to shut down local newspapers in Dubrovnik because they didn\’t like an article about their work! If THAT is an alternative, i will pass thank you! For some reason i like to speak my mind and i want it to stay that way!

On Wednesday there was over 5000 (not 200 anymore) people on the streets in Zagreb. By may, it’s gonna be 50 000 or more in Zagreb and maybe 500 000 or more in hole Croatia.

There is much more then 200 ppl,just not ALL have money to go in Zagreb,hell.. most of them dont have money to buy all necessary things for life.We spend more then what we can produce?How about those people who didnt get theirs paychecks for a year?they work for NOTHING.u call that spending more then producing?just stop being a smart ass when u dont have a damn clue what is really going on.
Alot of young people dont work,1st they cant find the job,and 2nd they wont be payed for it even if they work.anyone who have a bit of brain would rather stay home then work for free.

I\’ve just ref this article and i think there is something left out. As i was recently witnessing the protests in Zagreb on two separate occasions, i have to say that i\’m really disappointed.
First i\’d like to point out that 70-80% of the protestors really don\’t know much about politics, parties or anything related to that, and further more they don\’t know why did they come to protest in the first place, until someone tells them to hold some parole or someone starts shouting something, so they just blend in…
Second issue is that protestors \”gathered\” huge percent of so called \”hooligans\”, localy aka bad blue boys (large group of football hooligans). As expected, they were the ones who started to throw rocks on the police, smash up everything that gets into their way, throw garbage cans, etc.. I know for a fact that members of the above mentioned group really don\’t mind about any particular situation in the country, as most of them don\’t really work and don\’t really plan on working. They are mostly lowest level local toughs, whose life is based on drinking, fighting and probably drugs..
As a result of this protests, more and more people come to an organised protest every 2 days. People like to be in charge, and they know that when they form a large group of protestors, they represent an objective threat to smaller groups or individuals, and they like the feeling. It\’s always the same.. I\’m affraid that the mentioned protests have no qualifications for general public to justify them, not in this style anyway…
Of course, people here are unsatisfied with their lives, and many things have occured, that have influenced on our jobs, economic status, families etc.. I don\’t really say that protests are bad, just the opposite! But two things need to be changed:
1.) persons in charge of the protests – organisers
- the ones that are now in charge are too young, too inexpirienced, and have no adeqaute interpesronal skills to present their cause to the general public, and they have no carisma..
2.) protestors
- no hooligans involved, no agression! Present situation in the country affects all of the residents, but the working class is the most affected group of all, so the protests should be consisted of the WORKING PEOPLE, not hooligans or kids, since they are giving the wrong idea to the general public and to the world.
