Here is the whhole story.
There is a punk rock band in Russia called Pussy Riot. The three women were given jail sentences because they aired their grievances against Russian President Vladimir Putin while they were in a church.
The United States, European nations and even celebrities gave their sharp judgement against Russia.
The women were convicted for hooligasnism that was caused by Religious hatred because they entered Christ the Savior Cathedral in Moscow. While there they implored the Virgin Mary to replace President Putin with somebdoy else.
The European Union foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton, spoke out against Russia saying the two year senstences were “disproportionate” to what they did. Ashton added, “Together with the reports of the board members mistreatment during pretrial detention and the irregularities of the trial, it (the verdict) puts a serious question mark over Russia’s respect for international obligations of fair transparent and independent legal processes”.
The three women are named Maria Alyokhina, 24, Yetatering Samutsevich who is 30 years old and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 22.
White House apokesman, Josh Earnest, gave a statement that said, “While we understand the groups behavior was offensive to some, we had serious concerns about the way that these young women have been treated by the Russian judicicial system.”

Some countries call this Treason and stiffer penalties could be involved, but that’s the law of their land which I don’t agree with because in America people trash leaders all day, all night which I don’t believe in either. Sad for them to get these two years but perhaps something can be worked out. I don’t understand the Russian government. thanks for sharing.
nice info.
nicely written
This is small, in comparison to the way some are even put to death for speaking out. Most foreign countries don’t take verbal rebellion lightly. Thank your lucky stars, you are from the U.S. or Canada, where little to nothing is done for giving your opinion in a public place.
As flawed as our country is, we are fortunate to live here.
yeah! been following it on TV..I hope they get out soon!
