What isn’t legal in Mexico?
It was announced this week that Mexico would decriminalize drug posession. South of the border it is perfectly legal to have small amounts of ecstacy, methamphetamine, LSD, marijuana, heroin, cocaine, and opium. So what’s left? Have they not just named most every drug? What’s the point behind this?

Those caught with these drugs on them and within the allowed limit will not be fined or incarcerated, but police will strongly recommend to them that they seek help for their addiction. They will not force drug treatment for personal use posessors however.
This measure comes at a time of increasing violence between Mexican armed forces and drug cartels as well as the ongoing bloodshed betwen rival cartels.
The new law allows states to prosecutes small-time drug dealing, and will allow police to purchase drugs to further build cases against dealers.

Such a measure isn’t likely in the United States anytime soon, however it is interesting that America hasn’t try to dissuade Mexico in this matter. Similar measures were discussed during George Bush’s time in office and his administration strongly advised Mexico against such measures. The current minds in the White House have not publically said whether they support or disagree with Mexico’s policies.
How do you think this decision will affect Mexico and will it have the effect they are hoping?
Are you a little more cautious now about your sons / daughters / nieces heading to Cancun on vacation?
What about those crossing the border into the US? Are they all hopped up on drugs now? Or why would they ever want to leave now?

I’m taking a trip to Mexico!! ASAP
Class A, B and C drugs are all illegal in UK and are likely to remain that way after recent medical research showed that even moderate use of soft drugs like weed can have serious, long term consequences.
I know the laws are different in US and other countries.
You can never stop drug trafficing as its big business, more will probably get through than not and its a plant that anyone can grow providing they have the heating on for them, so its hard to stop this trade, thanks for sharing.
I’m fairly certain this will never happen here in the United States.
We will have to wait and see what effect the new law has in Mexico.
