Baja California earthquakes: Four strong earthquakes occurred today in the Sea of Cortez between northern Baja California.

The strongest of these quakes was a 6.9-magnitude quake that struck at 11 a.m. the epicentre was 76 miles north-northeast of Santa Isabel in the state of Baja California. All of the quakes occurred closer to Baja and reasonably close to Bahia de Los Angeles.  However as the epicentres were submarine there was a risk of a small, localised tsunami in the area, officials and experts have warned local residents, but there appears to be no threat to America’s Pacific coast.

Thankfully the tremors were all centred under the bed of the Gulf of California, this is a narrow strip of sea between the Baja California peninsula and the Mexican mainland. Due to the fact that a large part of the peninsula is sparsley populated the risk of loss of life or structures has been minimal. Thankfully they doesn’t appear to have been any widespread damage or injuries in any of the remote fishing villages or in the popular tourist areas along the coastline.
