Why the smart shoppers are getting ripped off by the government.
The recently issued “Cash for Clunkers” program brought in a huge number of enthusiasts to dealerships to trade in their existing “Gas Guzzler” for a newer, more fuel efficient car. What’s the problem with this? Nothing in the eyes of the government. After pushing the funding to near expenditure in the first week of availability it was put on hold and now in possibility of adding $2 billion more.
All I can say to this program is, congratulations to car buyers, who made not as smart decisions on vehicles in the past, for getting sympathy money. Those people who bought cars in the prior years made decisions to get more fuel efficient cars and we are getting shafted by the government. How is this fair!? It’s not like each vehicle is getting turned into a new, revamped car ready to make 18+ MPG after people turn it in. No, the engines are getting removed and the rest of the vehicle is getting demolished! Mind you, I am a college student and drive a car that gets just above this 18 MPG requirement so I do not qualify for this program, but come on, I think everyone deserves a break too! I say to ensure the best for the car companies the government should keep this deal going for a couple weeks for the “gas guzzlers,” then open the rest of the funding up to those of us who do not qualify for the initial requirements.
