Every single day there seems to be some new area of our lives that government has decided that we simply should not be left to decide for ourselves.

On June 22, 2009 President Obama signed HR 1265 into law.  The Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act will ban “harm-reduced” cigarettes, those labeled “mild” or “light”, and flavored cigarettes.

No more clove cigarettes.

No more herb or spice flavored cigarettes including strawberry, vanilla, grape, orange, or cinnamon.

If you like menthol, breathe a sigh of relief, you get a pass this time. Probably thanks to support of the bill by the tobacco company Altria Group.  Formerly known as Philip Morris.

The bill now gives the FDA control over tobacco regulation.
