After the 911 terrorist attacks the world has been trying to make us all safer in everything we do. They have come up with new scanning in airports that has caused a lot of controversy with the entire body scan. What it does is you step inside a box type thing and it produces a full body scan on you. It does not show clothes but is like x-ray vision from years ago in comic books and cartoons.
People are freaking out with this technology because of the explicit pictures it produces. I personally do not know what all the fuss is about. I fly quite often and wonder each and every time I board a plane if someone has a bomb on board, or something cancelled on their person.
With this new scan it is not like the entire world gets a show of your naked body, but rather just the person operating the machine. The machine has two operators and neither see the passenger in person. They see an image on a computer screen not near the machine or the passenger. The persons face is also blurred out so no one can detect them at all. The officers watching the images are also not allowed to have cell phones, cameras or any other form of recording equipment. The computer itself does not have any storage in it so nothing can be saved period!
These security officers are trained professionals or are supposed to be and I would much rather have them see me naked then not and be 35,000 feet in the air and find out someone got on the plane with a bomb or knife concealed under their garments.
The scan was made to detect metallic and non metallic items that are dangerous to have on your person. This scan was made to make us all safe!
At the moment there are 40 machines used in 19 airports. Some of the airports using this new technology is using them as their primary use of security while the others are using them on a voluntary basis. TSA states that this is much easier than the security measures used in the past and much more accurate. Not only are these wonderful points to be made about this machine, but it also saves you from being groped by some stranger when they pat you down.
Apparently this technology is being used not only in the United States but around the world and is also not just being used in airports but also in court houses. People are wondering if maybe this technology will also be used in malls and various other places.
These machines are still in the pilot phase and do have mixed reviews from a lot of people, but I myself would feel a lot safer knowing that everyone has been thoroughly checked before they have been admitted passage to the flying box in the sky.

I am like you. I don’t see what all the fuss is about?
I also agree, I’d prefer to know that no one was able to conceal anything while boarding a plane, train, bus or whatever. I’d like to trust everyone I’m traveling with, but the fact of the matter is, I can’t.
Even with the security in place today, it’s not enough. I’ve seen in numerous cities where local television stations test the security at airports and I’m amazed at how many times their people can get past the checkpoints with items their not supposed to have.
Heck, even I’ve made it on a plane with a lighter in my pocket and a manicure set in my carry-on backpack.
I don’t fly, but it doesn’t seem like a big deal to me either. I would rather be safe than sorry if I were to fly.
This is an interesting read. Thanks for sharing!
I totally agree, what does it matter as long as we are safe in the air!
Great article! I believe it is good for safety as well.
I agree that we need to know for certain whether someone has a gun or bomb on their person. I think, though, that some people are against this particular ‘test’ because even though the face is blurred, it’s pretty obvious what the person looks like, especially if the person is wearing tight or scanty clothing. Hair, body fat, boobs, butt, and the like are pretty obvious in the picture above as well as the shading depicting the genetalia of that person.
Also, just as wallets and money will show up, so will colostomy bags, heparin locks, medication shunts, and other very personal equipment. Many people who need these things in order to live a fairly normal life are also very self-conscious regarding strangers finding out about them!
Another problem is that while the security personnel are supposed to be trained professionals, who hasn’t heard at least one story involving a ‘professional’ who broke the law and took pictures…or stole information that was supposed to be safe and secure (such as social security numbers)…or had a bad day at work and inadvertently forgot to complete a procedure, allowing client information to get out to the media…etc, etc, etc. The list goes on and on.
I, too, do not want bombs and guns brought onto any plane I may need to fly in. But people who are against this type of personal invasion have a realistic concern that while we are ‘baring all’, the bad guys are finding better ways to get their stuff on board without even having to stand in line!
An unusual article, but interesting nonetheless!

I would tend to agree with you Linda. I’m not excited about agents checking out bodies, but some of the noted precautions should be helpful in the great cause of safety. Another precaution should be having a man view men and a woman view women. That would make me much more comfortable, especially considering non-Western cultural mores regarding the opposite gender. very interesting… im so shock to the images!
The main question – beyond privacy even and how extremely lewd these photos are – is the question of safety. These machines produce a kind of radiation. They could be very harmful to certain people, particularly pregnant women, the unborn, infants, children and those who are particularly sensitive to this, yet, not completely understood type of radiation.
It is easy to kill or harm a child in the womb and subsequently the woman. Not even women, themselves, know when they are pregnant. This is the first concern.
The second concern, of course, in the U.S. is the violation of our Constitutional Law and Bill of Rights. These machines and the agencies involved in operating them are the real terrorists here. They are conducting a hoax. Do your research!
Its getting crazy but better safe than sorry… Im not going to complain about most of the security reasons but for sure some are a little bit crazy…
