Rifqa Bary is currently awaiting confirmation of whether she will be forced to return home to face a possible honor killing for converting to Christianity.

A seventeen year old girl who recently converted from the Islam faith to Christianity faces the trauma of being forced to go home after running away to Florida. The young teen is at high risk of being the centre of an honor killing for abandoning her parents’ faith.
Rifqua Bary, who escaped from her parents’ home in Ohio earlier this month, is currently in protective custody with Florida’s Department of children and families until the decision is made by the court.
Experts fear that it is almost certain that the young girl will be sent home, regardless of the fears surrounding the reception she will receive when she has to face her father.
The jurisdiction of the case is currently under debate and is to be decided on Friday. The general consensus is that she will be returned to the original jurisdiction, leaving her at the mercy of her family and their beliefs.
The likelihood of her escaping permanently is slim as Ohio does not currently have legislation that allows a child to emancipate their parents. The outlook for this child is extremely bleak and there does not appear to be a positive solution available.
The authorities in Ohio could intervene, as explained by Fred Silburg, a family law expert currently residing in Florida.
It has become evident that her parents are keen to have her returned to them following a missing persons report filed in July. Weeks later the authorities were able to track down the young girl via her cell phone.
Rifqa explained that her parents are sure to follow the guidelines set out by Allah, as the Koran depicts that it is mandatory to punish traitors that abandon their face by means of death. She claimed that her parents love God more than her, that it will certainly happen yet the authorities refuse to recognize that this will take place.
She speaks openly of previous honor killings that she has knowledge of, many of which were people she knew personally.
The girl’s father, Mohammed Bary claims that he has no intentions of harming his daughter, despite his daughter’s fears of the worst. He explained that he loves his daughter and wants to see her returned to the family; her mother added that she fears for her daughter’s safety.

good work
keep the good work on
best regards
This is going on in my neck of the woods. The judge is going to have to follow the rule of law. If she goes back, it will be up to Ohio authorities to see to her safety. Islam law does not supercede Ohio law and she should be taken into protective custody there if the state fears for her life.
It seems that her parents are a faithful Islam. Even if she doesn’t receive any harm from her parents, she might receive a mental torture from her family who would see her as a traitor now.
Good article, thanks for sharing.
very sad and I think as many children that Florida has missplaced over the years they could miss place one more for a few months untill she reaches the leagle age of 18 and let her deside her onw fate (witch I’m sure she’ll chose life) Florida has 70 cases of missplaced or lost children within the system what’s one more ? At least losing this one in the system could save her life …. Thanks for sharing this
Poor kid, I would imagine that she would be given the opportunity to speak with, and convince the authorities in Ohio concerning any threat of family violence. I would like to know how this turns out for her.
@Ken Bultman: Islamic law supercedes any law in the world, since it is absolutely perfect in its Wisdom and Magnificence. And to clear a doubt, honor killing does not exist in Islam. A person who abandons Islam and becomes an infidel is referred to as a ‘Murtid’, and he/she has complete right to do so. What the people do must not be interpreted as what the Islamic Law says.
@NabeelNadeem: Islamic Law supercedes NO Law! All faith is down to personal belief and is largely philosophical. Faith should come from a person’s heart and own beliefs, not forced from birth.
I believe this girl, I believe the rules/regulations/laws of Islamic faith to be radical and extreme. I honestly think her family will seriously hurt her if she’s sent home and I do believe that their ‘faith’ will be the reason for her suffering.
I understand faith and the reason people follow their laws of religion but when all is said and done, the books of faith were written by a bunch of regular people of years ago.
On the off chance that they were stuck in the middle of the desert at the time of writing and as such they were dehydrated and deluded, would it not be wise to refrain from killing folk because “the book tells me to”. What if they were actually just con men? Or worse, insane?
Fashion magazines tell us to go out and buy the latest style of blouse every week but the majority of the time we don’t. On that basis, the written word, created by a group of individuals that none of us know or have met. Why is it that we follow instructions to kill our own race but not to buy a blouse? Curious.
Rifqa Bary, The Muslim girl now a Christian convert
My heart goes out to this dear girl, so much so that I lay awake
throughout the night into early morning hours! My comment to
the judge is as follows: Her life was in your hands! What really
bothers me is why did you taunt her into feeling secure? You
apparently knew that she would be sent back to her parents to
decide her fate! Yet, her blood will be on your hands if she loses her life! You could have saved her but all for the sake of
“political correctness” after all she is just a girl and now a
“Christian fanactic”! She is likely to convert more and we already have too many of those.
I would challenge the judge to go with her and offer his life in place of hers or at least to witness her being offered for the
sake of the Islamic faith! Otherwise I have difficulty in understanding how you can sleep nights unless you have no
convictions!!!
Very well said Fred, I agree whole heartedly
