Earthquake is also known as tremor. It is caused by sudden release of the energy in the earth’s crust. Due to this, seismic waves are created. For the measurement of the seismic waves, seismometer or seismograph is used. If the seismometer measures 3 seismic waves then the earthquake is very slight gradual. If the magnitude is about 7 then it causes a lot of damage to people and many lives are lost due to this. When a dangerous earthquake is located in the offshore, the seabed suffers displacement and due to this tsunami is caused. Earthquake is mostly caused by the breaking down of geological faults. Sometimes it is also caused by nuclear experiments, volcanic activity, landslides. The point from which the earthquake starts is known as focus or hypo center. The epicenter is the point at the ground level which is directly above the hypo center.
