Three families members were electrocuted by a bizarre power line tragedy.

Steven Vego, 43, went outside his Southern California home to find out what caused the loud pop sound he heard in his backyard, and found that a fire had been started by a fallen power line.  As he tried to put out the fire with a hose, he touched the power line and electrocuted himself.  Jonathan Cole, 21, the man’s son, ran out to help his father and he was electrocuted, then  Sharon, 42, the wife of Steven and the mother of Jonathan, ran out to help and also was electrocuted, falling on the body of her son.

A teenage daughter and 10-year-old son who were inside the home when it happened called 911 for help.

When San Bernardino firefighters arrived they found the three bodies.  The utility company had to cut the power before they were able to get to them.

It was not clear why the power line fell, but the brother of Steven, Frank Vego said that it was the second time a power line had fallen in the families back yard.

“It does appear to me that something wasn’t quite right.  This is 2011, and families aren’t supposed to be killed early in the morning by falling power lines,” he said.
