Quick overview.

The National Society of Newspaper Columnists Educational Foundation Scholarship contest which was started on April 24th was finally won by Kristen Butler.

Judge Goodman commented that he liked Butler for both voicing her opinion and disidentified reporting, as well as her “tough look at her own administration” and “the variety, too, from health care to Striptease!”

Another judge, Suzette Martinez Standring said that Butler’s work was well-researched and articulate and that “her voice and point of view is one to be reckoned with.”

Kristen Butler has received the First Prize of 1000 $, admitting that she doesn’t know yet what to do with it but looks forward to further journalistic work, like e.g. interviewing Hurricane Katrina victims in New Orleans.
