Two teens get by with murdering a immigrant? What has this world come to?
Two teenage boys murdered a man and what do they get… charges for assault. Brandon Piekarsky (17) and Derrick Donchak (19) were acquitted of reckless endangerment, aggravated assault, and ethnic intimidation for the death of immigrant Luis Ramirez. This all took place in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania.
Last summer these two boys got drunk and saw Mr. Ramirez walking down a residential street with his friend when he saw the group of teenagers. The other teens were a juvenile co-defendant and the other plead guilty to his role in the fight. Well these teens made racial slurs to Mr. Ramirez and took turns punching and kicking him which lead to fight ending with Ramirez dead. Brandon Piekarsky was accused of being the one who gave a fatal kick to Luis’s head after he was already on the ground with foam coming from his mouth. Two days later in the hospital Luis was dead.
Mr. Ramirez was from Mexico and had went to Shenandoah a year before his death. He lived with his wife and their young children. Now is this what we want to show other countries about America? That we let people get by with murdering? That we think we can beat someone because of their nationality or color? No, so why do we let these teens get by with such a thing? While all this was happening where were the adults? Shouldn’t they also be held responsible? They gave birth to these children and they should have been checking up on them.
Gladys Limon (spokeswoman for the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund) said that the jury had sent a troubling message. “In this case, the message is that a person who may not be popular in society based on their national origin or certain characteristic has less value in our society,” she said. The trauma from Luis’s head caused left his brain oozing from his skull (according to the medical testimony) So these two teens killed this innocent man and got by with it. So if we let kids get by with murder than why put everyone else in prison for it. Think of how Ramierz’s family feels, thier husband and dad were murdered and the people who did it get set free. They are the ones that have to live with this for the rest of thier lives. They are the ones that lost a family member and had to watch as the murderer got sent out free.
Assult? No murder. An assult would be them hitting him which they did but that assult turned to murder.
So what is everybody elses view on this? Are we showing a bad example?
