Shame on the police and the incompetent court’s.
![]()
The nightmare all started when Hallandale, Florida police decided to arrest an a 78-year-old grandmother leading to her spending 15 days behind bars. Officers ticketed and jailed the elderly woman for driving on a suspended driver’s license. Only one problem, the license wasn’t suspended.
A furious County Court Judge, Lee J. Seidman, ordered Gabrielle Trudeau freed during arraignment. “She’s handcuffed like Houdini, for the record. She’s got chains around her waist, and she’s got handcuffs in front around her hands as if she was some kind of a violent criminal,” “I want her released. I think she’s suffered enough at our system’s mistakes.” said Judge Seidman, according to the court transcript.
Officials admit the system failed Gabrielle Trudeau. From the initial arrest, to two assistant public defenders who didn’t do their job of representing her during her initial appearance, to a judge who didn’t even bother to look up from his papers when addressing a group of defendants. and also her unlawful time spent in jail.
According to published reports, it cost taxpayers $107 a day to keep this innocent woman in jail for a total of $1,605. It may cost a lot more when all is said and done. Do I smell a wrongful imprisonment suit?

why is this happening? Unfair..
Information missing. Something must have made the police think her license was suspended.
That is so scary, thinking such a thing could happen.
Sounds incredible.
So much negligence and it’s really unfair especially for her age, that must have made it harder.
What they fail to report is she was pulled over for driving too slow; which is a leading cause for accidents on the highway in Florida. The officer was informed by DMV that her license was suspended and she was given a traffic ticket. She then forgot to appear in court and a warrant was issued by a judge resulting in her being picked up by the Sheriff’s Dept.
Our systems have proved that they stink for the innocent and help the real crimnals that belong in jail with all their rights! Even after found guilty we the people have to support them for their mistakes and most of the time they get out and do it all over again!!
Interesting, perhaps there is more info, than is being release, like she attacked them with her hand bag, and resisted. What ever the case may be, our system is suffering severally and my fear is one day, someday, any one of us can and will be convicted of something that we did not do. This seems like a case they pushed to the limited with out proper representation for the elderly woman.Even if what RIch says is true, there should be some consideration.
That is the tackiest thing I have ever heard. They need to replace the whole system in that town. How terrible.
