On Friday, June 19th, 2009, Nestle company put a recall on Toll House cookie dough because of possible E. Coli contamination. The FDA is investigating thoroughly.
Friday, June 19, 2009 the Nestle company voluntarily recalled the Toll House refrigerated cookie dough. The company decided to do this after many complaints were made about people getting ill, after eating the raw cookie dough. Nestle noted in the news that the FDA was going to look into possible E. Coli illnesses and said that they may be connected to eating the Toll House cookie dough. Stated by the FDA, in 28 states since March 2009, 66 people have reported illnesses from eating the cookie dough and approximately 25 people have been in the hospital from the illnesses. “Nestle company is fully cooperating in this matter and is allowing FDA to do a full investigation without any hassle”, says Nestle spokesperson Roz O’Hearn. This recall consists of refrigerated cookie bars and the cookie dough tubs, of all the different tastes and varieties. The ice cream and Toll House raw cookie dough has not been stated as contaminated and nobody has reported any illnesses from those two products to date. The FDA is very serious about this investigation, stating that E.Coli can be deadly if too much is consumed. It is best to stay away from these products because even touching them could get the bacteria on your hands, which in return could cause you to be sick.
