Stan McKeever, the head baseball coach at La Cueva High School in Albuquerque, NM, was fired last month after hiring strippers for his high school baseball team.

Coach McKeever reportedly brought strippers to a hotel to entertain his high school players while they were on a road trip in the summer of 2008 in Denver for a talent evaluation camp. McKeever admitted to paying more than $500 for two strippers to perform for the two 17-year-old players hat had accompanied him on the trip.

The incident did not come to light until September of 2009 when a local radio station broke the story. The local school district conducted an internal investigation and it was decided that the coach should be fired. McKeever worked at La Cueva for 23 years and also served as a math teacher. During Stan McKeever’s tenure as baseball coach, the school won five state titles.

Former La Cueva High School baseball coach Stan McKeever admitted he made a mistake, but he is asking for forgiveness and for his job back. He has appealed that decision to Albuquerque Public School Superintendent Winston Brooks at a closed door hearing at APS headquarters. The hearing lasted for over four hours. If he does not get his job back, McKeever has the right to ask for an independent arbitrator to review his case again.

McKeever said he hired the strippers because the players pressured and he wanted to look like a “cool” coach.
