Many of you may have noticed that I keep my Tirades well away from the realm of truly important issues. With all the "Occupy Everyone and Their Mother- I mean Wall Street" going on, surely I would have jumped on the bandwagon, or at least have bitched about hippies, right? Nope. Instead I publish an article about why I haven’t, and why I’m unlikely too.

With most truly pressing social issues, economics for example, I generally consider myself too uneducated to be really angry. The reason for this is I hold the relatively firm belief that, unless you have an idea of how to fix it, you’re unqualified to bitch loudly about it. Note that I say loudly, that means in a public forum. You can whine to your friends all you want. So, taking that into account, I slept through high school economics, am not currently taking economics, and don’t put any real effort into educating myself further about it. I cannot get properly outraged about anything involving economics more sophisticated than “Give me a job, bitches.”

Well surely 1% of the world’s population controlling all the wealth is a problem, right? Well yeah, provided that that’s true, and even then, I’m unqualified to look at why that is and how we can fix it because “just kick them in the shins until the share the wealth” is neither fair nor practical. Besides, we already knew that most of the world’s wealth was controlled by a fairly small population, US. 

It’s sad, because I used to feel that I had more social issues to bitch about. Police Brutality? Yes I’m against Brutality. I’m against Brutality in general. And then downtown ABQ has a protest against Police Brutality that had nothing to do with brutality but really more with cops using force at all. We, as society, allow them to carry weapons and act with a certain amount of force because that keeps us safe. We cannot then bitch that they use force ever. It annoys me that, if I shot a man rushing me with a knife, I would be in less trouble than if a cop did. That’s bullshit. 

The war in Iraq? Everyone can be angry about the war in Iraq. Yes, I can be angry about it, but once again I don’t know the full implications and therefore can’t extend my article beyond ’stop getting people killed, dick weeds.’ but that’s an anti-war statement in general, and I accept that sometimes wars need to, or at least will, be fought. 

So there you have, the reasons why most of my articles are kept to the inane and humorous.
