Canadian consumers seem to have no problem paying the price Apple sets for the phone, but disagree with the outrageous prices Rogers has for monthly plans.
So earlier this year us Canadians got the news we have been waiting for ever since our neighbors in the U.S have gotten the iPhone. Rogers announced that it would be the official carrier of the iPhone and to expect it to arrive sometime this year. The problem being is well how much are we going to take out of our pockets? The U.S currently pays $399.00 for the iPhone alone for the 8GB model plus a unlimited data plan of your choice ranging from $59.99 to $119.99. Our Canadian dollar seems to be fairing well so we will probably pay around the same amount as our neighbors to the south. The actual phone might be $20-$50 more.
However by the way things are looking were gonna get robbed on the monthly plans. Currently the only comparable plan , the top Blackberry Email and Voice plan only provides 25MB data usage for $90 dollars a month! Now compare that to AT&T’s Unlimited Data+ Voice Plan starts at $59.99. So I go around and ask friends what they think about the iPhone and it’s potential pricing(30-40 people, all range differently in income). The verdict, people around my area would love to have the iPhone but first the monthly plan has to be at least no more then $70.00 a month. So heres to hoping Rogers gets a more reasonable data plan for the iPhone.
