A 29 year old woman tried to sell her son to feed her prescription drug addiction.

This is Jessica Marie Beers, a 29-year-old single mother with a prescription drug problem.

Church going Beers regularly attended a local church in Florida, made friends with fellow churchgoer John Gardner (59) and his wife. And over a period of time entrusted the Gardner’s to look after her five-year-old son. The Gardeners were aware of Beers financial problems and would help her by buying her food, and helping her with her bills. To the Gardner’s they had inherited a ready-made family, to Beers however she saw something else in the relationship.

After a fairly normal day Beers drop the $2000 bombshell, desperate to feed her addiction, and completely out of options Beers offered the Gardner’s the opportunity to buy the parental rights to her child for the sum of $2000.

John Gardner became incredibly disturbed by the offer and informed the police. An arrangement was made to meet in Seminole for the exchange, but the Gardner’s were not waiting for Beers, Detectives were. Beers was arrested and charged with one count of sale of parental rights, and one count of violating her probation order. She was taken into custody at Pinellas County Jail, while awaiting trial. If found guilty of trying to sell her son, she could face between five to ten years in prison.

Her son has been taken into care.
