Oklahoma Boy Gets Tongue Stuck to Pole

“My old man says that if you put your tongue onto a metal pole in the Winter time it will freeze and you won’t be able to pull away.” 

“Your old man is full of it”

“Oh Yeah, well I triple dog dare you”

I’m sure that most people will recognize this scene from the classic holiday movie A Christmas Story when Flick takes the dare and gets his tongue stuck to the pole.  Amazingly, this scene has just repeated itself in real life in a small town in Oklahoma.  After getting a dare to lick a metal pole when temperatures were around freezing, an 8 year old Oklahoma boy ended up stuck to the pole just like in the movie. 

Emergency officials were called in and the boy was found to be standing on his tiptoes attempting to free himself when paramedics arrived.  A decision was made to pour some water onto his tongue and the boy was able to free himself after having spent around 15 minutes attached to the pole.  The boy was then taken to the local hospital for treatment and he was released shortly thereafter with only a swollen tongue.  Asked if he would ever do a crazy thing like this again, the boy replied with “I’ll never take a dare from my brother again!”
